removing door panels

so...i changed my contest entry from the supra (as i see someones doing it already!) to a Lancer Evo VIII. I and stripping the car down right now (removing ALL audio equipment, seats, dash, anything that can be taken off the 3 main peices...including the engine bay), and I was wondering if its possible to take the door panels off the inside of the doors? i hate taping over things when I paint, because when the paint drys and i go to take the tape off, sometimes it seeps under the tape. anyways...any suggestions would be fabuloso.


EDIT: i am also having problems taking the wing off for some odd reason....any suggestions i havent though of? ive tried pushing it it out from under the trunk, and i took a flame to it to soften the plastic a bit, but to no avail. OH btw....its the Jada 1:18 Lancer.

to take off door panels, i use a knife to carefully get between the panel and the metal. after you get enough space to squeeze a small screw driver in there, i carefully go around the panel gently lifting it up and after a few times you should have broken the glue that hold the panels to the doors (there are little posts that are glued together that hold the door on)

as for the wing, did you try cutting off the melted plastic that holds the wing onto the trunk? it is on the inside of the trunk lid

that was the first thing i did, and i dont get it because even though the wing was broken off when i got the supra, the posts were still in and after i cut the melted plastic they still came off relativly easy.

Jada holds the wing in with glue as well as the little fused pegs. I've gotten the wings off only after alot of pressure from below the wing. Make sure not to pull on the wing, those little pinions don't hold much. Use a screwdriver to push at the pegs from underneath.

they are glued in as well? I got the door panels off using flyskylines suggestion, and as far as the wing goes, ive used a phillips screwdriver from underneath the trunk lid, i guess i shouldve been using a flat-head, and for some reason i just thought of that, so now i am going to go try that! thanks a ton for the help guys :D

Is it a turbo motor?, or seeing as it's Jada, it's just a peice of plastic with paint on it.
Because I have an Evo VIII from the lame 2F2F bs,
but I painted it, and put in a custom Twin Turbo Setup (thanks to the Muscle Machine 350Z for so willingly sparing it's plumbing and turbos). If you like I could post a picture of it.

As for the wing, I had a Import Racer Celica that I robbed the wing from, and I used Jewlers Screwdrivers (flathead) and pryed one leg at a time.

thanks for the help bandito, im still tryin to get the wing off :/ but i just got home from work so i havent had much time to work on it yet. I want to make it a twin turbo...the supra came with a twin turbo, but they werent centrifugal, but i do have a single turbo from an RSX-S muscle machines :D muscle machines rock for spare parts, i buy them....and scrap em for parts for my Jada's :D

Heh, that's the best way, because the MM's are already decked, so no fun in that, I have a 350Z with all Skyline interior and motor, and I'm gonna use the MM 350Z bodykit on it :D

How do you guys afford to buy diecast 1 18 models and just scrap them after taking a few pieces off? What do you do with the rest of the car, like the body? Wouldn't you rather have a new model to display with your other ones than only have the one model with a few new parts put on? :dunno:

I use all of the cars I scrap to the fullest, My old Skyline, was scraped then put into my HW 350Z, and the head and tail lights are going into a Civic, the rest of the body is going to be used as spare metal to make WBK's, and the MM 350Z was scraped and the turbos went into my Evo, and the body kit is going to my HW 350Z, the rest will be decided upon later.

And I have over 25 model cars, all custom, so scrapping one hurts me none,

its no fun to buy the cars that are already decked out. i buy the muscle machines because they come already decked out and dont need much work to em. i like to put in my "wrench" time into em, and taking a mildy tricked out car, to a custom work of art. you can also get realistic looking parts out of a car that is already decked out. esp. in the engine bay. in my Lancer, the body looks nice, the interior is pretty good, but the engine bay is LAME. motor..wires...battery...and strut bar. thats it. in my contest car, that is where i plan on making the most points. is in the engine bay. ive already added a turbo w/intake, and am going to make intercooler piping, and a BOV. and whatever else needs work. spark plug wires....blah blah blah. it will be nice :D

by the way.....do we need before and after pictures of our models for the contest or do we just present the finished product?

after trying to pry that FUCKING WING out, i decided i didnt care anymore, chopped posts in half so i could reuse the wing in another project, and poped those effin posts out. im going to fill the slots where the wing sat with some bondo, shave it flush, and then make an authentic OEM style Evo 8 wing. they look better on the evo's anyways :D
