I was thinking about going down this route since my old b16 block got messed up and was wondering what were the pros/cons? And if there are any problems w/ this swap..Also, I was looking a a CTR header andwanted to know if it would fit.
thanks for the help
BTW it's in a 91 hatch

yes it will work.the b16b and b16a are the same heads to a point the ctr has better internals in the head.thats a good set up.maybe you should get some ctr pistons well your at it.youll be happy.

GOOD SET UP! And cheap! When i owned my rex i had complete b16a swap. My boy was sellin me his ITR short block with ctr pistons. All i did was switched blocks and slapped my b16a head on it. Trust me you'll love it. MORE torque and i bet you can hit low 14s or high 13s with that set up. You have everything you need. Just find yourself a bare block if you're interested in buildin it from scratch or get yourself a complete block? :)

Its actually bit more than that. CTR head is mildy port and polished. He wasn't talkin about the head, he was talkin about the block ;)

yeah i know that, but didnt add that on.oh well. try this, b16b head and b20 block. then you'll be happy.

B20 vtec requires more work and needs to be built right. He basically have everything he needs to just transfer the parts to the 1.8 gsr/type r short block. He'll notice a big difference and definitely be happy with it ;)

just saying.theres all kinds of good set ups.gsr block 1000 bucks a b20 way less. i guess its cheap for me cuz of the hook ups. but work with you got man. at the end it will have more power and torque than your oll b16.

U can find a complete gsr short block for around 550-800 on www.thepartstrader.com or www.hondaclassifieds.com

i hope he can pick it up.cuz shipping for that thing will prolly cost as much as the motor. maybe a recycler around his area might help.

It should only cost 150 at the most.

I don't get it.. What are you doing?! He asked about GSR block and B16 head, not how many different setups he can try.
A used GSR block is always going to be cheaper than the CRV block.. Why wouldn't it be? People who talk like B20s are cheaper than B18s are fooling themselves into thinking that everyone and their dogs don't want 2L Honda powah.
yeah i know that, but didnt add that on.oh well. try this, b16b head and b20 block
What?! This is completley different from the setup he was asking about. This one wouldn't even make sense. Let me put it together for you..
Why if you "know" that the CTR head is the same as the B16A head would you recommend he spends probably 4X as much money than he needs when he could pick up an old B16 head for nice and cheap and throw some used ITR cams in it for cheap cheap cheap.
Port and polish on Honda heads isn't doing much unless you have a pretty major build because Honda makes very efficient heads.
Back on topic, a friend of mine has GSR block, B16 head, PR3 pistons, ITR intake manifold, ITR header and an exhaust and runs 13.3 with a full interior on DOT approved tires in a full interior CRX.

ok. thats cool. pr3 pistons.now are you talkin about all the pr3 heads. cuz the b16b and b18c are both pr3 and have diff commp. my lights are dot approved and what. that set up will not get you 13.3. sorry dog, its called physics. type r is better than stock but not better than after market. type r is a badge not a product.

so i suppose that instead of the ITR parts he should put skunk2 parts in it? like a skunk2 manifold instead of an ITR one, and a skunk2 header instead of an ITR one? last i checked, they were nearly identical. same with the low model skunk2 cams and ITR cams.
and the PR3 stamp is on lots parts on the b16a, not just the head. the PR3 pistons are good high compression pistons. not as high as CTR, but they are still good.
the reason he said DOT approved tires was to illustrate that he wasnt using slicks when he ran that time.
and just because type R is a badge doesnt mean that the R cars arent better than their normal honda counterpart.
i think that he can run 13.3 with that setup, because i ran 13.9 in my 90 STD with full interior, and the only part of that setup that i dont have is a GSR block, my b16 is setup the same as that, although he didnt mention which cams are in it. im running CTR intake cam and ITR exhaust cam.

Thats true. Skunk2 produce a LITTLE bit more than stock ITR parts. Either set up is good.

Why is it so hard to believe? His car is light and that set up should be enough to get his friend hit low 13s? Like i said before, i hit 13.9 on a STOCK motor and shitty sumitumo tires lol. Well i had ctr pistons with i/h/e with an exedy clutch and type r flywheel. The head is completely stock. Still the motor is basically stock!

Shit dude, I read this and didn't even understand a fuckin' thing you were trying to say until I read everyone's responses. :uhoh:
Who said what about a PR3 head?!?! I said PR3 pistons, they're from a 1st gen B16A. They'll net you high enough compression to make good numbers, but not high enough to get you in trouble with certain pump gasses (CTR may be slightly too high comp for 91 octane).
I don't know who the fuck said anything about your lights being DOT approved, so whatever...
What does physics have to do with my friends car running 13.3? You don't need to believe it, I've seen it myself numerous times. You think I'd make that up just to impress you!??!?!
I don't know WTF you're talking about about the Type-R being a badge and not a product.. Type-R makes better versions of Hondas already efficient parts. The Skunk2 intake manifold is almost an exact copy of the ITR, but I'm sure you've never seen the two side by side or even one on its own... Same with Type-R header, compare that to an aftermarket header and then come talk to me..
HAHA.. Fuck, you were the one telling the guy to use the Civic Type-R head because its so much better. :nono: Get a clue before you talk to me dude.
Mellow - The cam setup is 00ITRs wich is the same as CTR cams.. CTR intake cam is slightly better than 97-99 ITR intake cam, but the exhaust cam and the 00ITR intake cam are the same as CTR counter parts.

I know that. Thats why i said they're the same. Cause having CTR intake cam and ITR exhaust cam is just like having a full set of CTR cams. Thats what i meant ;)
About the cr. I was soo worried that i might have to use racing fuel but this shop called Garage Kwai said i should be fine using the 93 octane fuel in chicago. In arizona they only go up to 92. Well atleast so far that i've seen. Anyways i never had a problem with my engine using 93 octane. From what i've been told that even 12:0 cr can handle pump gas but must be tuned and i think you have to retard the timing a lil.
