ok we got the car to spark, 90 cavalier z24, and we have fuel but she still wont start. so today we drained all the gas just to see if it was bad, which it wasn't. We also check all of the injectors(all ok) and did a compression test and got about 150psi in each cylinder and it still wont start. The only thing I could think of is that the timing is off or the chain broke and broke all or some of the valves, except for the fact that the compression is ok. I just wanted to know what you guys thought.

How many miles are on the engine? I assume that since this is a Z24 it is a V6. I would check the crank position sensor before I would go to the trouble of replacing the timing chain. Even if it broke you shouldn't have done any damage to the valves since you have such good compression. You can check the timing chain to see if it is still good by removing a vavle cover and turning the engine over. If the valves operate the chain is intact.

umm we have alread replaced the crank position sensor. I think the car has 200xxx miles on it and yea it is a V6. I'll go check the timing chain later today, is there onle 1 chain or are there seperate ones for each head? thanks

A broken timing chain would not give you good compression, as the cam wouldn't turn and some of the cylinders would have valves stuck open. What is your fuel pressure at the rail?? It should be at least 30psi, key on/engine off. if it isn't, and the pump kicks on when you turn the key on, try pinching the fuel return line. IF the pressure comes up, you have a bad fuel regulator, if not, could be a fuel pump

If the timing chain jumped time you will stil get compression, just at the wrong time. Many older GM cars had a nylon coated timing gear that would wear down allowing this to happen. I am not sure about this model.

Pull off a valve cover, remove the spark plug from cyl 1. check your valve train movement while watching cyl 1 (use a plastic straw) for Top Dead Center. This will verify that the engine is in time or not.
