i replaced my window motor in my 84 318i but when it goes up if you hold it down the window bangs against the payne and makes a loud hitting noise i was wondering if when u replace the motor if you need to reset something like a kill switch so when the window goes all the way up it shuts the motor off.

You need to replace the window regulator. Ive never done one from 84 but Ive done a few in cars from the early 90's and there a pain.
