700R4 swap

I have a '91 GMS sonoma 4x4 with a 700R4 trans and 4.3L. The bellhousing is cracked and needs replaced. Can a regular RWD 700R4 work if the tailshaft housing is unbolted? I would appreciate any advice.

NO. The tran's must be gutted to replace the tailshaft.
