2002 Elantra GT Hesitation

My elantra has a significant loss of power around 3800 RPM. I have taken it into the dealer a number of times over the past 2 years, and they kept saying, that's just the power curve. But when I'm on the highway trying to pass, it can be irritating and dangerous. Last time in the dealership, they said Hyundai finally sent out a "fix" for the problem. They made some adjustments, but the problem is still there (and maybe even worse because it occurs at 3800 and around 4000 RPM now, I think they tried to flatten the curve). Once it is past this, it takes off.... Anyone else had this problem and know a fix. Except for this (and the display on the radio/cd player) I'm pretty happy with the car.

Welcome to the AF family and the Hyundai section.

Hyundai did the following tsbs for the engine RPM fluctuation.

TSB 02-36-022 (2001-2001 models)
Engine RPM Fluctuation - Cruise control adjustment (http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/iindex.asp?id=394885725#_394885725)

TSB 02-36-022-1 (updated with more codes)
Engine RPM Fluctuation - Cruise control adjustment (http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/iindex.asp?id=394886643#_394886643)

For the following you will need to have Adobe Acrobat reader to view it.
TSB 04-36-004 (2001-2003 Elantras)
ECM reprogramming for engine hesitation at approx 3800 rpm (http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/iindex.asp?id=394895161#_394895161)

If your problem also happens with the air conditioner on then..
TSB 04-36-011 (2001-2003 Elantras)
ECM reprogramming to reduce the delay in RPM drop between shifts with the AC on (http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/iindex.asp?id=394895220#_394895220)

Thanks for the info.
This sounds like the "fix" the dealer did (hesitation 3800 to 4000 rpm).
The car is really running worse, so either they didn't do it properly, or something needs to be replaced.

I'll head back to the dealer and see if they can improve it.
