Transmission Leak

Hi,
I recently purchased a new 2004 Santa FE and have only 320 miles on it and discovered that I have a transmission fluid leak. My dealer can not even look at it until Monday (4 days from now). Has anyone else heard of this problem? What should I be expecting the dealer to look for?

Get under the car and see if you can spot where its coming from. It may be a gasket that isnt swelling properly or a loose bolt on the pan.

It may be a seal where the drive shafts go into the tranny. No biggy.

Thanks for your reply, Slammin. I can't really tell where the leak is coming from other than the front. I noticed this morning that there is more fluid on the driveway. I hope that you are correct in saying that it's no biggy. I just bought my Santa Fe brand new about 2 weeks ago and am very concerned about a new vehicle with a trans fluid leak. I also have concerns about the dealer. Prior to the Santa Fe, I had a blazer and had to return 8 times before they finally fixed a problem with that. I live in an area where there are not many dealers to choose from and he is the only one who sells Hyundai. I'm just hoping that this is a one time fix and nothing major or reoccurring.

I wouldnt be too concerned... I know its probably frustrating but this dealer can lose his Hyundai franchise at the snap of a finger if he doesnt own up to his responsibility. It'll work out..

Just for the heck of it, check your tranny dip stick,,, make sure it is seated all the way down.

The problem was a cracked drain plug gasket, you were correct. It's been fixed and my Santa Fe is back in my driveway, running great and I'm happy! I was told by the dealer that Hyundai would contact me to make sure that the problem was resolved. I think this is excellent follow-up service that few manufacturers offer, especially for a gasket. I'm really glad that I chose the Santa Fe. It seems that you can't beat the 10 year warranty plus the follow-up service.

Speaking of the Santa Fe, I have been looking for one. (used)
Hyundai are really starting to make decent cars. I'll be honest... I had a 91 Scoupe and it was total junk.
