Exhaust

I have a 93' turbo. I looking to do some exhaust mods, down pipe, 86 the cat and so on. I like the deep sound of the stock exhaust and am apprehensive about investing in an exhaust that may make the car too loud. I like the look of the dual can exhaust, not sure the name but it starts with a D I think, but am not sure of the sound. It is advertised to be for race only or " not for street use" Any help would be great. Thank you. Jeykl I think I saw the exhaust on one of your cars.

Almost all exhaust for the MR2 will be advertised for "Race only" since they removeone of the cats ... that is illegal in the US.
As for my cars, Hyde has 3" of straight pipes (no cats or kittens) and Jekyl has a one off custom setup that I designed.
GReddy makes a dual canister set up and there is another one but I can not recall the name at the moment.

The BEST exhaust for a 2nd gen turbo mr2= TKO
25 proven hp gain over stock. That's nearly 2 more than the GReddy Pex and 7-8 more than the blitz nur spec.
They also sell a downpipe for a package deal with the exhaust.

My exhuast are pieces that are/were readily available.
I have the Tanabe B-pipe and the MR2 Performance Parts tip. :)
I am not dissing KO's exhaust as it is a fine piece, but 2~8 HP is not really significant as any particalur exhaust may vary that much on different MR2s.

at a guess the dual you were talking about WAS the HKS dual Drager.... which they stopped making (don't ask me why) i'm trying to get hold of one at the moment, Australia and NZ stock is out, and usually when places in the U.S think they can get it they end up being wrong. fujisobo and tanabe both make JASMA noise level complient dual exhausts, think they might even have high flow cat.

it's rediculous, why would HKS stop making it if people want to buy it?

Thanks everyone for the input. I am new to the site and love reading about everything. You will see my name more often. Thanks again. the Dragger was the one I was thinking of. That sucks that they don't make it any more.

speaking of the tko dual exhaust, will that exhaust go will with an internal wastegate? i heard some exhaust are recommended for internal wastegate because of boost creep. i like the dual exhaust, but however, i have an internal wastegate on my turbo. should i get the tko?

i think the TKO would be ok with the standard downpipe, havent heard of too many probs with systems like that, if you went to an aftermarket downpipe i'd get one with provision for an external wastegate just in case..

Now you are getting into territory I am not familiar.
External wastegate. I am not sure that the on that I ordered has that. Why would I need that.
By the way I am looking into getting the TKO exhaust. I just have to make sure with this new down pipe I have a place to put a High flow CAT

Any exhaust that bolts onto your downpipe is not going to have an real affect on anything to do with the internal wastegate.
If you wanted to improve the flow of your internal wastegate, you would need to do that at the downpipe.
Skyhawk au, external wastegates are used on larger turbos in order to have better control over boost ~ especially when you are running a bigger turbo at lower boost levels.

the external wastegate bolts to your downpipe, so you can get downpipes with or without the attatchment.

Actually the external wastegate has to be bolted on before the turbo ... on the exhaust manifold, the entry to the turbine or the adapterplate (if there is one).
It does not have to be routed back into the downpipe though.

I am going to call and find out what is on the way. You did say that ext-wastegates are for cars with bigger turbos. If I my orded down pipe has provisions for it will it affect my car adversly with the stock oem turbo.
Also Jeff did you get my reply to the Exhaust leak post from a few days ago.

Most downpipes do NOT have an opening for the Ext WG.
... if I did not respond to your reply, then I must not have gotten it. :)
