In March I gracefully purchased a red 3000gt VR-4 for a $1000 dollars. Now finally tomorrow (8-26-04) it will be coming out of the shop. When I bought it, it had 158,000 miles and 12 blown intake valves. Now it will have newly machined heads with 12 oversized intake valves, belts, idler pulley, tensioner, hydraulic tensioner, crankshaft pulley, NGK Iridium IX plugs, and Accel Wires. Excitation has kicked in! Anyways, I hear that the stock exhaust can handle quite a bit more horsepower; true? All I really want to do is get a K&N FIPK, boost gauge, boost controller. How far can I take the boost up with leaving the exhaust stock (im going to gut the cats)? Just out of curiosity how much HP will the car have after these mods, cause I would like to get the car around 375hp.

You can turn the boost up to 14.5psi. After that, the stock fuel system wont be able to handle it, and also your y-pipe will blow off under pressure.
2 suggestions:
1) always bring a flathead and a philips head screwdriver with you in the car, when you increase the boost chances are some tube or pipe will popoff at some point in time, it is an easy fix if you have a screwdriver with you.
2) when you up the boost you may get spark blowout with the iridium plugs. I am not sure, but if the car seems to go then hesitate, then go, then hesitate, sparkblowout is occuring and then you should switch to copper plugs.
These 2 situations may never occur, but just in case they do...
As far as the mods, 375hp is a good estimate of what you will be at with intake, 14.5psi, and gutted precats. You may also want to look into an aftermarket downpipe. That combo should put you around 400hp. Good luck with the car and congrats.

Igovert500, when you say that the car hestitates and then goes and then hesitates....that's cars in general right? Because my sister's Eclipse was like that and we got it checked out and the people said it were the spark plugs and we changed it but now it's doing it again....so I'm thinking it's the spark plugs again. It's only been about a month too....damn, we bought some good spark plugs last time too. ;o/
