I have an 01 silverado 2500hd. The problem is that it idels real low when in gear. Some times when I'm backing up or parking and I give it a quick touch of gas it will go and then the rpms will drop and it will stall out. I just give it a little gas than release the gas pedel. I've been running Seafoam through it to see if the injectors needed a little cleaning but after 3 bottles it still does it every once and a while. With all the eletronics that they add to these engines now you just can't turn the idle up without messing up something else.

Does anyone have any suggestions. Would a simple tune up do the trick like plugs and wires or is it something else. I have only had this truck for 3 weeks, I bought it used other than this little problem it preforms great, I would buy anotherone. Please if anyone has any suggestions reply or email me at [email protected].

Thank you.

I have an '01 extended cab with the 4.8 and am having similar problems. The dealer flushed the fuel system and cleaned the throttle body for 200 big ones, but that did not solve the problem.

There are numerous possibilities, but the dealer can't figure it out because it is not producing any codes. Have you removed the air tube and cleaned the throttle body yet? This has worked for some and is referred to in at least one TSB (see replies to my post below). If that doesn't work, check the fuel pressure regulator for any gas dripping from the vacuum tube attached to it. It must be replaced if gas is dripping.

The dealer has offered to replace my throttle body tomorrow for a very reasonable price, but there is no guarantee that the problem will be solved. It's frustrating when the dealer can't diagnose and fix the problem. Keep us posted on your efforts and results, and use the search feature on this site to peruse other posts about similar problems.

Good Luck!

Is your throttle body a flybywire or cable the flyby wire will cause an erratic idel if it is bad very costly though

I don't think its a flyby wire. it looks like a normal cable throttle.

I finaly figured out my problem with the idle in my truck. I bought some carb and throttle body cleaner and took apart my throttle body and cleaned it. When I put it back and started it up there was great inprovement, no more low idle or stalling. The throttle body was so gummed up. If anyone has a similar problem like mine try what I did.

Do you have the SCPI system or the MFI? Is your throttle body mounted to a plastic (mylar) upper manifold?

I'm not sure what you mean skipr, about the scpi or the mfi, I do know though that it bolts to a metal upper manifold and when I cleaned in the throttle body I sprayed some cleaner inside the manifold and shoved rages in there to clean all the crap out. make sure you tie the rages together so you can pull them back out.

Everything works great after I cleaned it but if I crack the throttle just a tiny tiny bit it kind of studders a little but if you give er the beans it really cracks out and no more idle problems.

If you have any other suggestions or know anything else to clean or what have you please let me know, Thanks, aberg

SCPI (sequential central port injection) or MFI (multi port injection) I like your idea here, I never thought of something as simple as blasting the throttle body with good old fashion, tetrachloride petroleum disstilate (carb cleaner)

I'm still not sure what I have, if you told me what it looked like I might be able to figure it out.

I think on the SCPI if you remove the throttle body cover, you can see the centre of the body shoot jets of fuel into the engine right?

Thats not it. I know what your thinking of I forgot the name of that one. It was used in early 80's looked like a carberator but the injector was in the path of incoming air and you could see the fuel spraying, something like crossfire injection (maybe.. central fuel injection). SCPI is a seperate fuel metering body under the upper manifold with eight plastic tubes going to each cylinder with poppet valves. I just looked at my original window sticker 1998 ext cab 4wd, vortec 5700 v8 central SFI engine, alldata reffers it as CSFI (central sequential fuel injection ). I'm sorry for the mix up it isn't PI it's FI. I get confused with all the types MBI, TPI, MFI, SFI, TBI..etc

Well I mine has eight seperate injectors for each cylinder thats all I know

My 2000 Silverado, V6 TBI is having the same problem on getting a smooth take off on cold engine, problems seems to clear up after it reaches normal temperture about 30 minutes, No Codes, I Replaced the wires, plugs, distributor cap and rotor. Had the injectors, metering flushed out, problem still there, shop cost, $60. Now the mechanics wants to remove the TBI and check the gasket from the upper Plastic TBI manifold to the intake manifold and also replace the pressure regulator while inspecting the o-rings to the poppet valves. He is estimating an average of 3 hours and $200 in parts. Does anyone know if I can do this myself or is this real complex? And just to think, It all started when I sprayed carburator cleaner on the Throttle plate when my accelerator pedal was sticking.

That's TBI or Throttle Body Injection

On my 2000 5.3L I removed the intake and pulled the throttle and cleaned it they have some type of call back for certain ones. Their is cooling hoses you have to disconnect. A 1/4 inch socket set and screwdriver and pliers for hose clamps. Clean it good with carb cleaner.
My problem is it was sticking in the morning.

I had a very similar situation with my 2001 5.3L Silverado. Even after the dealership cleaned out my TBI, it still idled rough intermittently. I replaced the IAC valve at the throat of the TBI and so far so good!
