Hello... I got my first ticket the other day for exhibition of acceleration and I was wondering what all somebody could do to get that type of ticket... by the way this was in Texas if that matters any.
As far as I have been told it is given when somebody sqweels their tires, but all I did was push on the gas hard while going between 35-45 and the engine got loud. Please get back to me... Thanks.
Later
Edit::I was in a 55 when this happened and was the only person driving on the road.

Haha, I peeled out once and go tpulled over. The cop says "what was that excessive display of acceleration about?". I laughed, he didn't. Bd move.

if you don't have a witness, you're probably screwed. best you can do is go in there and tell the judge that you were the only one on the road and that you didn't squeal the tires, but expect the cop to lie if it goes to trial and he shows up.
cynical, yes, but it's happened to me before.
if i come up with anything else i'll let ya know

Well I do have a witness... my friend was in the car with me and he is planning on comming to court with me. Just curious... can you get that kind of ticket for just accelerating moderately hard? I read yesterday you can get it for drag racing... but with nobody else on the road anywhere would that still apply?
Thanks again.

just go to court with your friend, be respecful and say that your tires were low on air thats why they made noise while accelerating. Other than that there's no other excuse.

well, if its a 5 speed, when the cop asks you whats up, you say you just learned how to drive a stick and you accidentally revved it too high :naughty:

or you could say that you down shifted into the wrong gear
In VA they put tire squeeling under wreckless driving =P

In Texas you can take traffic school or a deferment for a minor speeding ticket and it will not effect your record for insurance purposes. This is your goal when you go to court since an exhibition of speed ticket will cost you big bucks in insurance surcharges over the next three years. It is also likely that you current insurance carrier may drop you.
In Texas you are entitled to a jury trial and have a much better chance of getting the charges dismissed than just a trial before the judge. If they will not negotiate with you on your first court date then plead not guilty and request a jury trial. Then retain an attorney.

Whats up with this? Being on Private Property, No witness(outsiders watching a show), No Contestants. I backed out of an atm lane cause my 10,000lb truck would not fit. I went to leave and my gov spring broke on my diesel. It will idle to 500-800rpm, then jump to 2000rpm. It is impossible to operated it between these points. Cop says exhibition, to WHO? I turned not to run out onto the street while not being under proper control. He says donuts. The truck is 24ft long!
I found a Tx site saying that as of 9-1-2003 dps no longer can do these tickets. Not sure about locals?
Video taping how the truck acts now. Have TSBs about the issue from Dodge. Court will be in mid March :(
Any advise?

As long as you have proof from dodge (or the manufacturer of the truck) take it to court and show the judge. Plead not guilty and show him why the truck revs so high. I think the judge will understand your situation.

I got something similar a few years ago.... mine was "Demonstration of Accerlation", I had a 1993 Mazda RX-7 and had just put new plugs in it.... I took it out, and did a quick 10-50MPH.... cop saw me and that was it.... first he said I was racing.... without no-one else on the road!

happened to me too. i was goofing around in the car with a friend and accidently hit 2nd instead of 4th. needless to say there was a huge engine/exhaust/bov surge but for a quick second and this cop pulled me over. i just told him my tranny oil is contaminated and thats why it happened. said i was going to autozone right now. im sure he knew it was BS but he had been to my workplace before. always blame it on the tranny.

back when i was young and foolish (as opposed to old and childish) a friend got a ticket from the cops for doing a burnout, they were pretty good about it, watched smiled, gave hima not bad, and then said they still had to give him a ticket.... then did a bigger one in the cop car when they drove off... guess it kinda rubbed it in, but it also sorta showed no hard feelings and they were just doing their job. they'd been told to crack down on kids in cars.
