please advise immediately - gears stuck in park - cannot shift gear!

Hi!

I went to my car tonight and I put the key in the ignition, turned it on and then I am UNABLE to shit gears. It remains stuck in park. It will not move. Anyone know what's going on? I need to work tomorrow!

Please advise, any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Try pushing the lever forward with good pressure push on the brake.Then try to get out of park.

I was able to get the car started, brought it to the dealership and found out that it was some part that needed to be replaced. It was a recall thus it was FREE.

I ahve a 99 jetta so if you experience this problem, remember that there is a recall and get it checked out quick!
