a CEL stands for the Check Engine Light. if u look on ur gauge cluster in ur car when u first turn the key to the "ON" postion, a little light of an engine will come up, which is usually yellow in color. this light will go off after 1 or 2 seconds. if u start the car up and the light remains on all the time (doesnt turn off after those 2 seonds), then u have something wrong with ur car. So the light came on to tell u somethings wrong with ur car.

On honda's u can check to see whats wrong with ur car by checking to see what code ur engine is throwing. To do this, u will have to reach under the passenger's side kick panel (to the left of the glove compartment) and pull down a plug that is attached to a green rubber housing. u will need to remove the plug from the housing and insert a piece of wire/paper clip inbetween the two leads of the plug. once u have done that, put the Key in the ignition swtich and turn it to the ON positon (without start n the car). U will notice that the Check engine light will start to blink. (NOTE: it will only blink if ur enigne has thrown a code, which resulted in the light coming on. if the engine didnt throw any codes and u placed a wire in between the leads of the plug and put the car in the "ON" position, the CEL will stay on until u remove the wire from the plug) if the einge did thow a code and u placed the wire inbetween the leades of the plug, the check engine light willstart to blink. it will blink sometimes long blinks and sometimes short blinks. the long blinks represent the first number in the trouble code. the short blinks represent the second number of the code.

example:
6 long blink followed by 5 short blinks will be code 65. now once u get the number of the code the engine is throwing, just look it up in a manual or on the interent. heres a go site that tells u what the codes are: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=838322 code 65 is a faulty secondary O2 sensor.

Getting the codes from the CEL will save u lots of money and time as u can figure out whats wrong with ur car by urself
