2004 Aveo Back in the shop

Well it happened again, the clock decided to change times again. They already replaced the clock once. And it's been in the shop several more times for other electrical issues. I am about ready to leave it there until it's fixed. These people need to get their act together and learn how to fix the cars they sell. :banghead:

So the Aveo has electrical problems? How is the car other then that?

Well according to GMs main Technical assistance (where dealers call if they don't konw what to do) there have been 14 other Aveos in the nation with the same problem. They didn't know what to do so they just added a second ground wire to the clock.
Then the screwed the dash up so that has to be replaced.
Other then this problem I can't complain about the car one bit.

Cool, I was thinking about getting a Caviler but I don't know. I might get the SSR, cuz I found a place that can get 550hp out of that thing, :D

Well the stupid clock did it again. This will be the third or fourth time for the same thing. It will be a lemon soon enough.

Hmm a cavalier or an ssr??? big price jump. I have to admit the ssr's are sweet though, too bad they cost more then the new vettes and just got around to getting a manual transmission. Oh and fyi daewoo makes the aveos for chevy, same engine as the lanos, if you need parts try to cross reference with the lanos models, i had major electrical problems with both my lanos' though, from the ecm to the fuel injectors to the crank and cam sensors and now two, count them two coil packs, they caused a sporatic missfire, kinda weird on two seperate cars with the same engines and same problems, well i guess that explains why daewoo went bankrupt, oh well, good luck with your car, hopefully chevy worked out the problems the other one couldn't

my girlfriend bought an aveo back in april and we (i more than her) love the thing but we too are having the clock problem and the only reason i havent taken it in yet is because we havent had the time and i work at a chevy dealership so we are not worried about warranty issues but when i talked to the service writer they said they have not heard about any problems with the aveos specifically but i have noticed one in the back in service lately so i wonder why its here.
other than that we have had no problems with the car
we have the hatchback model and love it
i have installed a clifford alarm with remote start and installed a 7 inch drop down monitor and playstation 2 under the drivers seat and limo tinted the whole car
i also have a performance air intake on it and it really helps the car move.
next will be the new exhaust and 17" rims

My clock does the same, maybe 1 time per month tho...
I bought mine in August, and i like it, not problems to note yet.

the aveo might not yet have had the chance to have known problems, but the dawoo's do, the radios are notorious for locking up, and having electrical problems, and i wish you the best of luck when the timing belt goes.

I have been having the same clock problem with my Aveo. They tell me there is nothing that can be done. I also had a faulty thermostat, my air bags didn't go off when I hit a deer, the struts wore out early AND the windshield wipers decided they should just stop working in the middle of a snow storm.
Yeah, I love this car. :(

I had my Aveo in the shop this past Friday (12/10/04) for the seat belt recall. I mentioned that my clock reset itself one time and they said that GM had no info on a known problem. Would there be a TSB to accompany the new clock?

I did a web search for the part number and came across this GM Tech Link web site. If you go to the link below you can scroll down to the Aveo concerns. It states the clock issue along with a couple of others. I called the dealer where I had the seat belt recall done (when I took it in I stated my problem with the clock also and they told me they searched and came up with nothing)...they never heard of this web site. Then Tom proceeded to get snippy with me and treated me like he couldn't be bothered. Wouldn't you think that all GM service techs would utilize this site? This is my second GM vehicle from 2 different dealers and in both cases service has been terrible. The only comfort is knowing that GM did not make this vehicle.I love the car....hate GM! Can't wait for the survey to arrive.

Thanks for all the help with the new clock! My GM dealer kept telling me there was no bulletin, therefore they could not replace it. I brought the part number in yesterday when my kelyess entry stopped working (yes, yet anothr problem) and they told me not to believe what I get off the net, but that they woud look into it. My new clock is being installed today. Thanks once again!!!

I had a problem w/the keyless remote entry. The fuse blew twice in less than 5 months. I guess they don't have the best electrical work done to them.

WOW i wanted an aveo lol my truck gets 9 maybe 10 miles to the gallon lol and i thought wow 27 mpg would be alot nicer but with all these problems i dunno but do you think that it is mainly problems that will effect the first year or two of production models or would you think problems like these to still occur
and to the guy who wants the ssr lol the are allready fast as hell my father works for the ssr plant he brought a prototype green/blue chamelion one home it had the new 6.0 motor in it and wow it had some balz i didnt even like them before i drove it lol

You're worried about "all these problems"...unless I missed something we're talking about a seat belt recall, keyless entry problem and clock problem. I solved my clock problem when I installed an aftermarket radio as I suspect a good majority of people will do (there is a fix for the clock problem now). The seat belt problem has nothing to do with reliability and was a simple fix. And now that we're into mainly 05 models probably is non-existent. When I was shopping around I didn't even come across an Aveo that had keyless entry. Do you really need it? If not get a model without it. Besides, once you start getting into models with keyless entry you're probably into the 11-13k dollar range. Buy something else. If you're looking at a basic vehicle, IMO, you can't beat it for less than $9k or even $7k. It's a reasonably comfortable car, has good enough acceleration, is relatively quiet and gets decent gas mileage. Just my 2 cents.

I'm 6'3" and 175# and I fit with reasonable comfort. I drive about 500 miles per week. Have not driven more than 1.5 hours at a time so can't speak for long distances. Will probably feel a little fatigue in the legs as I've experienced with my previous small cars. As you know though from your experience with the geo, it is somewhat of a compromise. This car should feel a little more refined compared to the Geo. Can't speak for the rust yet. Mine came with the auto armor and rust proofing so I'm hopeful that it will help. I live in Syracuse NY and my 3 year old minivan is starting to rust.

I owned a GEO for several years, 2 door hatchback, auto/air, The Aveo is Superior to the GEO in ride, acceleration , interior space. The only short fall is in mileage, because of weight and 4 cylinder opposed to 3 cylinder engine mileage in the Aveo is less than the GEO. I am getting 32 MPG with my AVeo mixed driving, auto transmission, 3,000 miles on engine. As far as rust, it is built with Galvinized metal, except for roof ( unless you have sunroof, then it is all galvanized metal) I love the AVEO and feel that it is about time there is a new car I buy with Zero Defects. My Aveo has had NO problems of any kind and I have had it for almost 4 months. :smokin:

Hello everyone, I just found this site and am glad to find others are having the same problem with thier Aveos as me.
My clock has been losing time on a regular basis since I bought it. A minor distraction more than anything, but It does like to do it.
The real annoying problem happened just after the warrenty expired (I have 53000 miles on it already) The remote car alarm will not arm, but the remote door lock functions works just fine. Every once and awhile the alarm will arm, but it will soon quit working again. Then just for fun, last week the radio presets all cleared from memory. I believe the car has an electrical design flaw from the factory.
I really like this car alot, and do not regret buying it (yet). It is a great commuter car and does everthing I wanted for a great price. I am 300+ lbs and 6' 2" and have more than enough room. In fact I would say this has been one of the best fitting cars I have had in a long time, (43 to date). I would recommend this car to anyone, I just hope they get the electrical problems sorted out.

2004 Aveo sedan. My clock has had the same problem since new. I've decided to just leave it alone and reset it every time rather than having someone rip up the dash to replace it. I've got bigger problems with the Aveo to deal with. Many problems. Aveo sucks.

I'm glad to see I am not the only one.
After buying the car I noticed the clock would reset to 1:00 and that I started to get a shock when I left the car. I brought it back to the dealer and they said they would replace the clock, but had to order it. Fair enough, but then shortly after, my AC stopped working. Well they replaced the clock and rewired the compressor. No more shocks and the clock was fine. A few months later, the Alternator and battery goes, followed by the thermostat, followed by the pump for the windshield wipers. Well, as I am waiting for the pump to come from Japan, my clock resets again to 1:00 and I get another shock when leaving the car today. I just hope they have it figured out by now. Only 4 months left on the warranty.

yeah i bought my 04 aveo brand new, and over the last couple years i have had no problems.. It is a stick shift and i loved (keyword) my car!! BUT i was driving down the highway and my car just stopped! literally... So i have had a few people look at it because it wont even move. some say it is timing belt, some say it is the flywheel, some say they are stumped! All i know is that where my milage used to be now it is flashing a sequence of numbers 98989898 it makes no sence, has anyone had this problem?

My clock just literally *disappears* but when it decides to come back it's on time...any particular reason? it is still under warranty, I was thinking it could be a fuse or one of the wires isn't making ground, but oh well. any ideas?

If the clock keeps time, I'd think it's power source is fine. Either the the LCD has a weak connection or the back-light is out. I've seen owners pull, disassemble and replace the back lights with Radio Shaq parts, etc and a soldering gun. Mine? I'd probably do without.
