loss of power

I have a 1998 Chevy Malibu and I recently have a problem with loss of power. The car is running to bad to drive it, it feels like it is only running on 2 of the four cylinders or something, I cannot keep speed on the up hills and I have to gas it to keep it from stalling at stops. I did a compression check and everything turned out fine and I can see a spark coming from all four plugs. After I have driven it for a while I noticed that the catalitic converter gets glowing red hot. Can anyone help me?

Sounds like your coverter is plugged...replace it.
