88 accord is weird

Hey guys, i have an 88 accord LX. It has been through many repairs, including a new carburator and a new head (had a cracked exhaust port/blown head gasket). After I got that fixed and started, it ran for about a week and then just stopped working. It wouldnt go over 3G RPMs and wouldnt go into gear without stalling. I let it sit for about a week....then tried to start it, and it ran fine. It is still working, but I want to know what is wrong with it. I know it has to be something with the fuel system, but i cant figure out exactly what it is. can anyone help me out???

check the fuel filter, dizzy cap and rotor, pcv valve, spark plugs/wires. by the way, this is the civic/crx forum not accord
