Is it an auto or stick?
If it's a stick, take it for a drive and listen for any noises in any gears when you give it gas. If the bearings are going out it usually begins in 5th and 3rd.
If you know the transmission is bad, then you could have it rebuilt somewhere in the range of 700-1100.00.
