I own a 93 4x4 suburban, It recently started making some grinding noises up front, not all the time, but mainly when you accelerate. sounded like something was broken in the drivetrain. Then suddenly..the truck just didn't want to move! The 4x4 gear on the floor kicked into Neutral and is stuck! will not move out from there. If you put the regular transmission in drive it will not move! Help! Is this something I can fix myself or will I have to pay top dollar for someone to fix?

It sounds as though you have both your high and low range locking together in your transfer case. In order to move the truck, you will probably have to remove the driveshafts. I would start by taking apart the transfer case, you may be able to remove the rear cover by not having to remove the entire unit from the vehicle. I was able to do this on my friends 91 Jeep Wrangler. I have a 96 Z71 and I believe the same can be done to yours. As long as you have the aluminum transfer case. Get a shop manual and see what you can do. I am pretty sure you have some internal damage to your transfer case. You can get parts for it through transmission only parts suppilers for probably cheaper than the dealer. Hope this helps. -Chris

Cool thanks, we were able to pull off the driveshafts and tow the truck home to do the repairs. Not sure what it will be yet, but sure sounds like what you mentioned.
