95 SE cold start problem fixed

For your info: Long time problem of not starting quickly when cold was fixed after I changed the ignition key wiring harness with a new Nissan one from Autozone. Engine would crank but not start quickly if it was not 'hot' from driving recently. Dealer offered to try fixing it by replacing several things (but not the wiring harness) for about $1000.

Turns out the wiring harness has a position called start that is between the 'on' and 'starter engage' position. The rotary motion of the key turning had worn this so it would not send the signal to the 'computer' before the starter was engaged.

My guess is this signal is supposed to allow the computer to enrich the fuel mixture to allow easier starts to occur.

Cost about $36 for new part & about 1 hour to replace.

I owe you a big thank you, I had the same problem with cold starts and replaced 2 sensors with no success, so I typed: "difficult cold starts with 97 maxima" on Google and to my surprise came to your post, I was skeptical but I bought the part and installed it today and sure enough it worked beautifully. The power of the internet beats the exorbitant prices of auto dealers! Again thank you.

For your info: Long time problem of not starting quickly when cold was fixed after I changed the ignition key wiring harness ....

This was a worthy note, thank you. ECU must be busy figuring out whats happening... surely no code for that!

The worn ign sw can also burn your whole car, I have seen my friends car caught fire because of this sw: the starter solenoid takes few amps too much and eventually burns the contacts. Typically I install in my cars here an extra relay to feed this solenoid - the ign switch will last longer.
