engine trouble

Ok, I know this is a general and probably stupid thread but I'd like to get some advice/opinions before I take my car anywhere. I have a 95 civic EX that I got in Nov 03. Admitedly, I drive it a little hard. A few months after I got it, I noticed it seemed like the engine was missfiring or the timing was off before it hit about 2000rpms. (I works fine when not in gear). Ever since then the problem has been creeping up. Now its at about 2800-3000rpms before the engine works as it should. Does this just mean I need a good tune up? If so, what should that cost? Also, above 80mph or about 4000rpms, the engine seems to start to overheat (worse on hot days). Could this be a water pump problem? Something else? Let me know what you guys think.

I would try a tune up first. possibly cap, rotor, plugs, wires.. Honda vehicle have many probems with the ignition system...

yea, sounds ,like you would be right at the mileage where you need a tune up. Change your plugs (you can get NKGs at most real autoparts stores, rarely hvae I seen them at Pepboys or Autozone) air filter, never hurst to flush the radiator, and clean the distributor and rotor.

all but the radiator flush I would recomend you do in your driveway for about 1 hour and about $40 bucks.

oops...i'm a dumbass....didn't read it right

yea...thanks....i should have time to do the plugs, rotor, and distributer this weekend. I hope that clears it up. Also, could my fuel injectors be shot? I read they should be replaced every 90000 which would be 30000 over. If so, what injectors are good (would like better than the stock ones i have now) and is that a job i can could do myself (i would say i have moderate mechanical abilities)? could there also be an oxygen sensor problem? (check engine light is not on)

Before all this (which is very needed)...................a few questions need answering.

When this happens, are you losing fluid in your cooling system?

Sounds like your car should be bogging in this case?

So your current mileage is at 120,000. timing is at? current mods? CEL?

shouldn't need to replace injectors... i don't know of anyone that does that. maybe have them sonic cleaned but even that won't make a HUGE difference unless your injectors are really screwed
