Ignition/Tumblers

Anyone heard of putting the key in, turning the key, and the ignition popping out of the column? Two Ford dealers haven't seen this before. 99 Ford Explorer with 106,500 miles. The battery was disconnected because of the auxilary power. Any suggestions?
