1992 Check Oil light

I have a 1992 Pontiac Grand AM, 2.3L (D) with about 80K miles.
The check oil light comes on sometimes and I'm trying to figure out why.

There are 2 lights on the dash that appear to be related to oil - one says check oil and the other looks like the oil can.

There is an oil pressure switch on the top/side of the engine which I have replaced... There is also an oil level switch on the oil pan, but I haven't replaced that yet...

So what does each light indicate? And any suggestions?

TIA,
Tim

Check Oil light is controlled by the sensor in the oil pan. That one comes on if it detects the oil level is low. The other light is the oil pressure. It comes on if the oil pressure is too low, and that light is controlled by the oil pressure switch you replaced. My 93 GA does the same thing yours is doing, and I replaced that oil sensor in the oil pan from one out of the salvage yard. It still does it. Not sure if a new one from the Auto store would fix that or not. I know I have plenty of oil in the crankcase.

Hope this helps.

some early 90's gm cars had an oil change interval light, that would come on to tell you that the oil was due for a change. Check a repair manual for the instructions to turn the light off
