around here im familiar with clifford and viper all made by the same company if im not mistaken. i think the top of the line clifford alarm is one of the better alarms you can buy for your car but i think it runs about $1200.

that is the official clifford alarms. clifford is the same company that provide Directed Audio (a new and upcoming but very good car audio equipment maufacturer). this company also owns Viper alarms which are very popular and very affordable and pretty good when it comes to security but Clifford is their top of the line.

Actually, Directed Electronics is the parent company. They bought Clifford and added it to their portfolio. They used to be the top of the line along with VSE and Code Alarm. VSE is no longer around. Actually, I hear Rudy Sanders, the former President of the company is still providing some products to motorhome companies. And Derek, the former engineer that developed their products is a friend of mine and now works for the Los Angeles County Unified School District as an instructor. I am afraid of what Directed has done to the Clifford line. I spoke to them at Knowledgefest this year in Louisville and was not convinced that they have not tried to cut back on the quality of the parts to save a buck. I have installed all of these companies systems. I think that Code Alarm is definitely the top dog now.

Ryan,
I think the Code Alarm CA640 would be of interest to you. If you would like me to send a brochure, just let me know, I will be happy to send one out to you. Hope this helps.

hey street sports thanks for the info. i knew that directed was teh parent company and there is alot of buying out that takes place when it comes to car equipment and accessories. see...i have always heard good things about clifford but thanks for the heads-up.
also you would probably be the right person to ask. i talked to this guy today and he mentioned that Orion is owned by Directed also. is this true?

Seems like all the old school, kick @ss car audio companies get bought out and then neutered. I remember when PPI, Rockford, Orion, and Lanzar (my fav) ruled the competition circuit, only to be bought out or commercialized.

yeah...when it comes to wheels it is almost as bad. Lexani owns half the chrome wheel brand out there. its ridiculous. but it is good business. i only wish i was the owner of directed.
are PPI speakers good or not? i have heard good but then i hear bad.
if you guys ever get the chance to compare a directed mid-range speaker with a normal speaker, take advantage. the technology is crazy. directed speakers are so light because of their technological "magnet".
