Ok,
I was driving my car down the road and I stopped at a stop sign and took off again and it shifted into 2nd gear and when it got up to 40 mph it like shifted into neutral because when I pushed on the gas pedal it just revved the engine? So I pulled over and turned the car off. Then I went again and it shifted into 2nd fine and then when it got past 40 mph it shifted into neutral or somethin and just revved the motor!! Do you have any clue what this could be?? ANY HELP would be very appreciated!!!! Its a 1995 Eagle Talon, automatic Thanks,
Justin

i know this is a dumb response but...

it sounds like the end clutch. it's a fairly common problem with us A/T DSMers once the tranny reach a certain age or wear. you just gotta replace the end clutch which shouldn't cost you much at all. as for now, try turn the OD off see if that'll get you to shift pass that gear.

Sorry for sorta hijacking the thread a little, but since we're on the topic of transmisions what are some things I can do right now with my AT GSX with 104,xxx miles on it to extend the life of the tranny??? I was thinking about a trans. cooler, definitely getting the fluid changed, do shift kits help, and can I take it to a trans. shop and ask them to inspect it for me and make sure everything looks okay???

shift kits make it worse, you already have a trans cooler(clean it out, its on the opposite side, in the same spot, as the stock SMIC)

get a new and better cooler, end clutch is a defiinte at some point (if it works well now.. great.. it'll bound to go at some point). and watch/inspect for leaks on the valve body. regularly change the fluid and check the level.
and last but not least, when you get enough cash, replace the stock converter with a better high stall one, replace the shiftkit and a new and stronger valve body.

What RPM stall do you recomend for a torque converter??? If I get a higher stall speed then I have to get a shift kit right???

before you upgrade to a new TC. what kind of mods do you have. you prob won't notice much difference untill you have all the supporting mods. you'll definintely notice a much firmer shift with the shiftkit.
i strongly recommand visiting IPT's site. John the owner there specializes in tranny rebuild and a very nice guy to talk to. he helped me with my tranny problem before.

Right now all I have is Apex'i N1 Catback, gutted cat, K&N Airfilter, NGK Plugs, and some huge spark plug wires...don't remember the brand at the moment, and 17 in rims. I have about $2500 in fun money at the moment so I was thinking about getting a downpipe, intake tube, BOV, EBC, boost gauge, data logger, and gasket matching the intake manifold. Does that sound good???

I drove it today and i tried it with the overdrive off and it shifted fine. Then I tried it with the overdrive on and it worked fine?? Why would it work today and do what it did the other day? Thanks,
Justin

it's the end clutch malfunction or giving out. it's a sign. when you turn the OD off.. you're dis-engaging the endclutch. should still get it replaced if not checked out.

definitely get the gauges, BOV, and your exaust fully taken care of first. then intake pipe and UICP. EBC is not a must but personally i would go for a MBC, it's just much cheaper and easier to setup. then you'll notice a difference with a new TC. :)
data logger isn't necessary untill you start playing with the fuel.

tell you the truth, i've never touched transmission myself. for one, car's too low, don't have a lifter, secondly, "some things are better left to the professionals"-vince. :iceslolan i just know that in this case it's your endclutch. take it to a shop and have it looked at.
