My daughter has a 1997 Sentra GXE that has 60,000 miles on it. It will not start now. It has spark, timing looks ok, getting fuel, turns over fine, and has compression. Does anyone know what it could be? I am at my wits end and the nearest Nissan mechanic is 60 miles away. I have never seen anything quite like this.

Possible problems: idle motor, air flow valves and sensors, sludge component... For two years my 97 sentra on a daily basis would either not turn over, or it would turn over but stall as soon as I let go of the key. The check engine light will not come on for this because the computer does not recognize the faulty parts as causing a misfire. One of the wires to the idle motor was not connected, which caused the car to stall a lot (at stop signs & lights, or if I was moving too slowly). The air flow control sensor and valve were bad which was the reason the car would not start or not stay running. Since I had these problems corrected the car has not stalled once, and it fires up every time I turn the key. As far as the sludge component, it's not a major problem, but it wouldn't hurt to have it cleaned. I noticed that after having it cleaned the car seemed to run a lot smoother. Hope this helps!

does the car have any kind of amp for a stereo system? Cause when I hooked mine up, the ground wasn't in tight and the amp started sucking so much juice from the battery that my car wouldn't start or it would start and then die.

i have a 97 nissan sentra gxe with a check engine light on fault code 0205 iacv/aac . i removed the iacv harness with engine running and idle does not decrease . the iacv reads 180 ohms when the engine is off and part is off of the intake it should be around 50 -100 ohms . wondering if anybody came across the same problem. the part cost $ 180 i just want to make sure before i purchase this part . the car dies when it is in reverse intermittently. haynes repair manual says to replace the iacv/aac .

cam or crank sensor
power transistor has to see a reference from the cam angle sensor in order to get spark at the coil.
