Hi,

my brother in law has a 1998 Plymouth Voyager, 2 days ago we ware stuck in traffic and the engine overheated, we pulled over, the coolant started boyaling ... whole 9 yards because the fan wont start up

we drove the car to a local mechanic, and left it there, he said it might be a relay, or temp sensor, so he replaced the temp and the fan still wont run, than he came to the conclusion that the computer has shorted out and doesn't send the signal, and needs to be replaced.

now I don't know if I should believe him or not. I found few used ECUs for $75 so if it comes to it, we'll buy one.

has anyone had a problem like that? what was the cause? and what should I look for?

btw. my brother in law was fixing dented door just before it happened. and he removed it without disconnecting the battery :sly: (yea, he forgot) so I think that's may be the cause of the problem

any help is appreciated

Thanks

possible fan relay... also try and spin your fan with your hand!! ***engine off, be careful*** make sure it spins freely!!

I've been there and found that the radiator fan connector was burnt. I replaced the connector on the bad side and cleaned the other side. It's been working fine for over three months. Good luck

Check with dealer on a recall for the fan relay. Had mine replaced awhile back, no charge, no problems since. :lol2:

I would get a second opinion , this sounds like a bad radiator fan relay problem which is a common problem during this era and most had recalls for this component because it was considered emmisions . I would take it to a dealer and see if it was covered under a recall .

fan relay is located on the inner fender and is square (solid state)next to radiator driver side ...follow the wiring from fan and you will see it.
cost about $50 to $60. everything was fine after that.
