Hood wont close

I am working on a friends 1990 325i and the hood was closed when i picked it up but after opening it would not close again. It appears the the latch and the striker are not lining up. It will lock in place with the hood off but when i put hood back on it will not lock. Any suggestions?

check hood struts to see if they locked up at the hinges if so simply push them back out
