was the 396 a 402 already in 69? I thought they wited till 70 to do that. Anyway, there is not a lot of first gen support over here but ask whatever questions you have.

GM did not offer the 402 in 69. Only the big blocks that were availible in 69 were the 396 and 427. And a big block in 69 would not have a 350 auto trans, it would have come with the 400 turbo. I would suggest getting some restoration books before you started to do a car.

I was gonna ask if the 350 would even bolt up to the big block. I thought it should have had a 400.

The 350 tranny will work just fine, unless you do hella mods to the motor. I was going to do the same thing with my 73 Camaro, a 402BBC and a TH350. I have a friend who uses a 427 with a TCI TH350 amd pulls low 10s. Be prepared to do a lot of work putting in a big block into the 69. You'll be better off then I was with my 2nd gen Camaro. Those 1st gens have so much after market it's crazy! If you have any specific questions just shoot.
I have been restoring my 73 for the past 3 years. Recently I have ripped out the tranny, put a new cam in the car, and I am prepping the car for paint. I have done a lot to my car. Nice to see someone else with an early Camaro. Everyone in the Camaro forum has new 3rd or second gens.

I meant to say 3rd or 4th gens.

I apoloigize if I was harsh, i've been having a really bad Monday......
If you are going to start a restoration you should read up on the car you are about to restore. That way you can tell what engine and tansmission is the right one for the car you are working on. Yes a 350 trans will bolt up to any early big block chevy, but to be correct for the year 69 big blocks came with a 400 turbo.

The 402 was droped into my 69 , so I am working with a new motor and a rebuilt 350 trans. Yeah I am going to try to get some pics up soon. So what can you tell me in general about a 402?

No the car by the fisher tags show it had an 350 nad 350 trans and was rather simply car no ac black interior. Now let me tell a bit about this car.
Now I bought the car to finish rebuilding it and it just so happened to have been already in the process , with the 402 BBC and a the rebuilt 350 trans. Now I was going to restore it to original but there is already the new 402 BBC in it so now we are just trying to find some information on the particular BBC. Anyhow. So all of this is dropped in and we just started hooking it up as in wiring , and hoes so on and so on. Now this is my first major car , or should say my dream car. I've always loved the Camaro's especially 67-69 the first generation Camaro's. Anyhow I am un-educated in the SBC information or in the complete Camaro engine's. Like 67-69 SBC's are 250 the V6 to V8 350 then the BBC's are 396 and 427 where the biggest engines offered. I believe? And how do you get photos up into your galleries? So I can show you what I am working with!

396 blocks with a casting date in June 69 were 402CI, but still were called 396.

Sheesh. I hope you dont have any clearance problems using those tall valve covers. I rebuilt a 402 about a year and a half ago. I let it go cause it cost too much money, I already had a 350 with four bolt mains, and at the time I wanted a dirt bike. With all that I still wish I hadn't let it go. I'd post a picture of it if I could figure out how to put one in here. I must say that engine looks good!!!

What kind of intake is that on the engine? Is that an edelbrock C-454? Thats the intake I bought to go onto my 454 but I cant find any information on it and I was wondering if you had any.. Thanks.

To answer the clearance problems so far we do not see any problems yet , all looks good. Now on the manifolds we are doing research so we are not sure. It has a carter carb. Also yes we will keep posting new pictures and updating the progress. Thank you everyone.
