Mercedes C280 vs. Infiniti

I am in the market for a new-to-me car. I am looking at 98 and 99 Maercedes and Infinitis. I have ruled out the BMW 5 series due to reliability and poor gas mileage. Any opinions on whic of the two above is the "better" choice? Thanks...
