a crazy idea for cold air intake

i can only wonder if any of you have either thought about this or actually tried this...

anyways, i was thinking of hooking up one of the air conditioning tubes to my filter box. that way i have guaranteed cold air coming in as well as a steady stream of normal air, and since i'm not removing the oem filter, there's no harm of debris flying into the engine.

i'm all for polaking engines, because i'm a polak.

That's the funniest shit I have read in a week or more. How many pollacks does it take to re-route a/c tubes to the air intake box?
LMAO.

wouldnt your engine be running harder because the a/c it runnin any way.

i have no clue it it would work

u should be the first to try

Your car wastes energy making the air cold, the heat is soaked somewhere, i doubt the powerless from the AC being on will be made up with that kind of induction.

But by all means try it...

your better off running a home made dryer duct tubing to the front / outside of the bumper for colder air.

Someone thought of this long ago. Doing this method you actually loose more hp than you think.

The AC sucks about 10-20hp on most Civics and the cold air going into your engine is good for about 1-5hp.

You can try it though, common sense would tell you otherwise.

True, it wouldn't help with the horsepower if you turn on the AC for that sole purpose. But on days when you would be running the AC for your own comfort anyway, it might help reduce the loss of power a little bit. So instead of losing 15hp you might only lose 10.

I'm curious to see how it goes, if you end up going through with it.

Ummm incase you didn't read what you wrote having the AC on you are still down 10hp. If you have the AC off you are more power. And the cold air wouldn't come into the passenger compartment it would all go into the intake.

doesnt the A/C give you worse gas mileage too if ya got it blowin hard?? i didnt know it cuts of 10hp, ya learn new things every day......

What I was saying is that IF, on a hot day, he wanted the AC on anyway, then at least it would kill the power slightly less if part of that cold air was sent to the intake. I agreed that it won't ever make the performance better than if the AC wasn't on in the first place, but some of us like to run it now and then. You wouldn't need to route it all into the intake. With a little work you could splice a line to divide it between the intake and the cabin.

Sure, it seems to me that the whole project is more trouble than it's worth. But so is swapping out stock headlights, or installing short shifters and throttle spacers, and that doesn't stop people from trying it.

AC lines in the intake... that remains a stupid idea by everyone who posts about it.

In doing so, you would lose HP AND manage to overheat your poor engine.

You would get more power by removing your AC all together...

Why the hell would anyone want to do THAT? August in New York, I'm damn glad I can turn on the AC when I want it. At least long enough to get my sack unstuck from the side of my leg so I can shift properly. :)

Cheap AC: 2:65 = 2 windows : 65 mph
Hopefully I'll get my real AC working for next summer, but it's too damn late in the season to care about it now that winter is coming.
But yeah AC powered Intake is dumb, that's why you don't hear of more people doing it. Just buy or build a cold air box for the intake.

LOL - that's the system I used to have in my pickup.

Sure, AC into the intake is a dumb idea. So is a gerbil-powered Civic, but if someone made one I'd still want to check it out.

wow, thanks for smacking some sense into me. i didnt know, however, that the a/c drained up to 10 hp just by being on! you really do learn new things every day. thanks alot you guys for setting a polak straight. i guess i'll just diy myself a real cai.

what the hell is wrong with kids these days..
How about you reroute your exhaust back into your intake because your exhaust is blowing, and will blow harder into your engine!

i allready try that with my short ram, i put a rubermaid bucket with cap and opened two holes ,one for the a/c hose and other for the intake so the filter would stay inside, and all i got was a dirtier filter!

wow you actually tried this? I came up with this idea about a month ago and replied with this idea as a JOKE to someone. wow I didnt think someone would try it. You can already see how shitty a civic runs with AC turned on. My explorer you can even feel the difference. My moms camry you cant... I dunno why

Once upon a time someone thought that, and now we have turbochargers because of it....

BTW it does seem like a silly idea on N/A to use A/C for cold air, but Ford is doing it on their supercharged motors with success....
