what happened? did u blow ur motor up? or just doing a tear down and rebuild?
well removing an engine is the easy part. puting it back in is a lil more difficult. just take a note of where all the electrical connectors, vacuum lines, coolant lines go. the install should be easy once u do that.
i would remove all the lines (electrical, vacuum, coolant) that run from the engine first. Unbolt and remove the intake pipings and your turbo/manifold. Then remove the axles, half shafts, then support the motor with a engine lift. Unbolt all the mounts (tranny mounts and engine mounts) then u should be ready to pop that sucker outta there.
but to be on the safe side, pick up a haynes/chilton manual if u dont have one already. Should be pretty simple to remove though

i did the samething that boosted said in pretty much the same order and the engine came out like a charm. the hardest part was getting it back in. went to start it up and realized i forgot to connect the return fuel line:banghead:and one of the coolant hoses going to my FIT valve. but it only took me two days of work to get it done. good luck though:bigthumb:

I think i get about an hour of work a day. Anyways, I baught the cherry picker and it didnt come with a sling or chain, what size chain should I use?

i did the same by doin' a bit at a time. i'm not sure about using a cherry picker for our cars. with the tranny and all situated the way it is, will make it harder to get out. if your doing it that way you will have to take the tranny out first and then the engine can go up through the top. i just lifted the front of the car up high enough to take it from the bottom. kinda wiggled it out that way. it only took about an hour to put back in from the bottom also. but from what i hear the best way to take out the engine is through the bottom.

yeah i hear that to, the only problem is I dont see how I would get it out from underneath the car, I have a small 2 ton jack along with two 2 ton jackstands

what i did was is raise the car up as high as it will go with the jack, then took a second jack with boards underneath and raised it higher. did this untill it was high enough. i also went to walmart and bought one of those SUV jacks. its like a 4 ton jack. that damn thing will jack any teg up real quick. i think it was about $40? and this jack has come in handy alot lately. so it was really worth it.

yea, removing the engine from the bottom is a good idea! just drop the motor on a dolly and wheel it out. it will be easy to get the tranny and engine out at the same time do n it this way

ok, instead of me going out and buying a dolly or whatever, on a cherry picker it has the long ass legs, couldnt I just lower it onto that and pull it out from underneath.

yea u could do that. but u can also try this: drop the engine on some cardboard or some hard plastic and drag that sucker out. have a friend help u push/pull/drag it out. u wont do too much, if any damage to the motor. but play it safe and drop it on something with wheels. using the base of the cherry picker will work just as good as the dolly. But arent u gonna be using the cherry picker to lower the engine to the floor? or r u gonna be using a hydraulic jack to do that?

well I wont have to pull it out until after its dropped on the legs, here is an image off ebay, to show you what I got, and have to use. http://images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/20054607/Images/cherrypicker.jpg
But yeah Droppin it on the legs and then pulling it out from under, think it will work?
Im sure this image will leave after a certain period of time, so if anyone see's this post, sorry but the ebay image is gone ^^.

hmmmmmmmmm... i dont know if it will work. i dont think the legs of the picker will be able to go under the car if u r use n it to drop the motor as well. but maybe it will. can u remove that black bar on the top of the cherry picker (the part that the chain is attached to.) then place the chain on the top red part of the cherry pick. that should be good enough for u to drop the motor onto the legs of the picker
if i were in ur position, i'd try to see how hard it would be to lift the engine outta the car 1st, cuz if u have that same cherry picker in the pic, it will probably be able to lift the engine outta the car. ur gonna have to support the engine and tranny with the cherry picker, then remove all the mounts, drop the motor a little bit to swing it out so u can clear all the mounts, then lift up the motor outta the engine bay.

Yeah the black bar, adjusted so that I can move it closer or farther if needed.
oh yeah Ill have to remove the tranny if I take it out from the top, thats why I was wanting to drop it, because I wouldnt have to remove the tranny if i droped it. I donno ill work something out, I was looking for links to sites and stuff, for walkthroughs and stuff. I have my haynes manual, and its coming along fine. I only get about 30 minutes a day to work on it since I have work all day. Ill get it on the weekend. Was just lookin for different alternatives.
