Greetings. I signed on to this group because I need some help/advise.
I have a chance at a 1986 944 2.5L at a bargain basement price since the clutch is currently out of it. It shows 123K on the odometer and aside from some cosmetic problems looks in pretty good shape for a car that old with that much mileage on it. I have already checked the oil cooler for leaks (none), the water pump (fine) and the engine oil for water (none and the oil is clean). It runs fine - though the tranny is off and I would change out the timing belt immediately at any cost. It also shows signs of the usual leaks around the back lid and the sunroof which will need fixing. The car dealer is a very small lot affair and seems to know little about the Porsche except that he doesn't want to put any money into the broken clutch and wants me to take the car as is. I got him down to $800 on the car but told him to call me when he gets tired of looking at it and would take $500 for it.
That's the story. Now those of you who are knowledgable about Porsche 944's can write and tell me I'm crazy..... ;-)
Cheers!!

sounds good to me, like you said the only thing thats sounds bad is the clutch and whats that gonna cost ya? i got one done 3 weeks ago on an 85 2.5 for £450, thats about $820 i think, so thats about $1500ish for a decent porsche, not bad at all if you ask me.

Sounds like a hell of a deal! I'd grab it up at $800 even.
BTW, the oil cooler leaks internally. It mixes the oil and coolant when the seals go bad.
Welcome to the forum.
