Want advice on how to start new hobby

Hi everyone! I'm newly divorced and looking for a new hobby to pour my time (and money) into. I've always wanted a great old muscle car so I thought that there's no time like the present.

I really love the 66 and 67 GTO, especially the convertibles. Problem is that most of what I find on the net is someone else's completed restoration and the prices on these seem to be ridiculously high ($70K!?!). I'm not all that interested in faithfully reproducing the car, and I'm never going to race it. I want a cool daily driver and I'm interested in style as well as substance. So here's the question I'm putting to the group:

Should I suck it up and spend the cash (looks to average around $20K) for a convertible GTO someone else has fixed up, should I really put in the time and look for something I can restore myself (well, pay other people to restore for me as I have never done this before and I am not friends with any mechanics), or should I settle on something slightly different (66 LeMans or the like)? Any advice?

I'll give you this much advise, If you are going to pay someone else to build you a car, you might as well buy one that someone has already built. This hobby is like a wishing well, you just keep throwing money in it and hoping for the best. Time and patience my freind, It's never too late to learn.
