having problems starting the last few weeks, finally one night it didnt start, jumped it with a friends car, started right up. so i went and bought a new battery turns over great with spark and sounds like it wants to start but just cant. check the fuel relay(if its in the glove box its good). but dont hear the fuel pump, just dont see how the fuel pump can go bad just over night just by changing the battery. HELP!

does a 95 s10 have a fuel cutoff switch, if so does anyone know where it is located.

The EXACT thing happened to me with my 1994 S-10 V-6 about a year ago. It would be difficult or impossible to start unless the battery was freshly charged or with a jump. After scratching my head for a while I tested the fuel pressure with ignition switch on but engine not running and sure enough it was about 10 psi below spec. These engines are super sensitive to fuel pressure and if it is low the CPI poppets won't open properly. But with a battery fresh off the charger and pumping out 13.5 volts the fuel pressure would be high enough to get a start and once running the voltage is generally 13.5 volts so it would run normally. Anyway, I determined that my fuel pump was "weak" for whatever reason so I replaced it and the 12V fuel pressure returned to normal and I never had a starting problem again. It could also be the FP regulator but I'd bet you have the same issue I had. Good luck.

thank you for the resonse, i like this forum iam going to come here more often. but anyway, if i do have to change the fuel pump, is the job pretty involved, i know its in the fuel tank.

Just replaced pump on my 94 not bad at all I took the bed off (just 8 bolts) disconnected the wiring harness and fuel filler neck and lifted right off. This left thr sending unit/pump assembley in the open . About a hour an half job give or take.

Hope it helps

yeah, i have the same truck, if you have spark and u dont hear your fuel pump then that is the problem... my wouldn't start and had NO spark... it ended up as the ignition switch...

Well, I did it the old fashioned way, I dropped the tank. It was moderately difficult and took a bit of time. And you need to get the tank essentially empty either by draining or driving it or it will be very hard to handle.

Check your fuel pressure, ignition on, engine not running, first before you replace the pump and compare it to the specs. I don't remember the numbers but I do recall that my pump was about 15 psi low. Gages are readily available and cheap. They just screw onto the schraeder valve on the rear drivers side of the intake.

I have never heard of removing the bed to do a fuel pump like the other guy posted. That might actually be an easier way to go but I dunno since I've never tried it.

Well i decided to take the box off when, i decided what the heck i will try starting this thing one more time. Well it started i think the fuel pump is trying to go out. dont know if i should change it and let it go for a little while to see what happens or just to change it. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you to everyone trying to help.

Replace now while you are calm and not when in need of your truck

Make Sure You Change Your Fuel Filter As I Seen Many Pumps Fail From Clogged Fuel Filters.
