I have a '97 Wrangler and recently I have had the problem that when I start it up the RPM's shoot straight to about 2000 when it used to run between 800 and 1000. After putting into gear and driving for about 10 min then stoping at a light RPM's then go down to about 500 then if I do not give it gas it will usually die. Any help would be appreciated

Had same problem and it was an Idle Sensor, is it running rich, and are you going through more gas than normal, and is there carbon on tail-pipe, then this is sensor prob.

Is this a sensor problem? I cleaned the area around the Air Intake control sensor and installed a new one. I did the code reset and it came back up as 505 which is Idle Control System Malfunction. Is there more to this? I feel it's running a little rich because sometimes you have to keep reving it to get to the right RPM's then it will calm down and play normal. :grinno:
