This may be a little off topic, so I will apologize to the mods ahead of time.

The '97 Talon Tsi is getting to be too expensive. Paying $300 a month just for insurance isn't fun when you're going to school and have other bills to bay also. So i have been looking into an 1g talon.

I found this one on autotrader and was wondering what you guys think. Any thoughts/opinions are appreciated.

wow, 300 a month? that's insane, i pay 225 every 6 months... it looks like a decent ride, but if you are wanting to save up on insurance, you will need to get a different type of car.... an older type of car, and make sure it is a genuinely safer car to really rack up on insurance savings.

you could always but an 80's cavalier 4 door. and save on insurance.

on an old station wagon.

lol, just giving my opinion. that looks liek a pretty good snag if you ask me

First of all that looks like a great ride, but I don't think your going to save much on insurance by getting the same car, your going to want to get quotes on a bunch of cars that sute your fancy. Also what is the reason for it being so high? I live next to Boston and am 19 with a 3000GT SL and I pay 200/month.

just the fact that someone has a turbo costs money, my friend had a 98 GS-T and paid 1500 every 6 months, which comes to be 275 or so a month, if you want cheap insurance, get something u can afford to lose, a nice 1g turbo that has a working motor but looks like crap will give you better return bcuz u can beat it up w/o remorse and put liability on it and replace it when times comes, liability is soooooo much cheaper that or find a diff. insurance place

I checked out the car tonight...

It wasn't anything special. The owner took me for a ride in it and my car pulls quite a bit harder than this one. I think it's only running half a bar of boost. He said that the boost is so low because of the fmic.

The interior is basically gutted. The back seats are gone and there are 2 pretty uncomfortable sparco seats up front. The a/c is gone too.

The owner even told me that the car was build pretty much as a race car. So I told him that the car is nice, but it's not what i'm looking for, and we went out seperate ways.

Yeah dude get an 86. Try and find the hatch though cause IMO they look better and you might like it if you see it. Good luck with the car thing. I have the same problem. Trying to find a cool car with low insurance.

Your insurance is insane. I am 17 and looking for a 1999 Ford Mustang GT and was quoted at like 176/month. I know your car is a turbo car....but 300 is insane. Might want to shop around for a new insurance company as opposed to a new car. Unless you have tickets on your record.

Go with 86! You should save a lot of money there. And hey save up and drop a SR in their later :evillol:

Since the car isn't paid off, I'm stuck w/ full coverage for insurance.

But as for my record, I'm as clean as they get. I've never been in an accident that's my fault and have no tickets (knock on wood!). In fact, I actually have about 25% in discounts like "good student", "Home Owners", etc...

Sounds like my insurance company is making quite a bit of money off of me, especially if a 17yr old is paying a little more than half of what I pay for a mustang GT. Was that full-coverage HighRev87?

Not sure exactly what my plan is but this is what im covered for:
1.Liability
2.Medical Payments
3.500 Deduct comprehensive
4.500 Deduct Collision
5.Emergency Road Service
6.Uninsured Motor Vehicle
7.Underinsured Motor Vehicle

Wow...you have cheap insurance!

I think the fact that I have Farmers insurance, that might play into the fact that mine is so high, I've heard they're expensive.

But I can't leave them, cause I'm on it w/ my family and I'd lose all of my discounts, so I'd prolly end up paying just as much.

BTW, does anybody have, or know somebody who has an old SE-R that they'd like to sell?

damn man...my best friend doesn't even tell me that he wants to sell his car and get something new. i feel so used...j/k.

get an se-r buddy. OR you could buy my ITR...hehe.

good luck man.

btw, i think i pay around $300 for full coverage on my car, but i know that washington has some of the highest insurance prices back in the states.

Big racing scene? I cant see why washington would be higher...not near any big cities ect.

seattle is pretty big in the import scene and street racing.

but 97tsi, i have a friend who works for state farm and she should be able to pull some strings to get you low insurance.

mine would have been $220 a month with only 2 tickets and a accident. so pm me if your interested

I thought 350 a month was alot on my car. Then I looked into getting my OWN insurance plan. Im 18, it was over 800 a month at the lowest. This is for a 1996 Eclipse GS-T. I'll stick to 350 on my parent's plan. But they pay it while im in school ;), so im ok

I went down the Federal Way tonight to check out this car:

http://members.cardomain.com/dienerr

It's completely stock, so I dont think it's been beaten on very hard. The motor has 135,000 miles on it and it runs great!

So basically the only thing holding me back is selling my car and then I'm gonna make this guy an offer.

What do you guys think?

looks clean man.

yea, down south of seattle in auburn has a pretty big scene. they get around 250-300 cars from all over western washington. ppl meet up in the smaller cities then ride down and all meet up there for the bigger races. its weak down there tho, cuz they get broken up quick.

Go for the 86....Since I've been In Seattle for the last 5 years you can se the increase of imports (In general everywhere). Maybe that has something to do with insurace costs.

Hmmm. I've lived in the Seattle area for 7 years or so, and I had no idea Seattle was big on street racing. I mean, yeah, i see ricers everywhere, but they tend to be in every city, so whats going on? Am i looking in the wrong places or what?
