Toyota Mk1 Mr2(aw11) and Toyota Corolla GTS(ae86)

In this piticular thread I am intrested in comparing their performance in all area's from acceleration, braking distances and skidpad and slalom in stock trim and their potenial after being modified(modestly).
Any opinions, faqs stats or any comments that doesnt have anything to do with a sertain popular cartoon? ;)

*Note: by performance I meen by racing wether it being autocross, road course racing or drag racing. ie, not drifting. :)

well takumi beat the crap out of that guy in the stage 3 so the corolla is clearly the better car.

just j/k I would take the mr2 all the way, lighweight, midengine, turbo what is not to like

I'm talking about mk1 mr2(the old doorstop looking ones :) ), there where very very very few mk1 mr2's that came from the factory with a turbo. some odd 1.8L engine 3T-GTE,

Note: I am not talking about the 3sgte 2L turbo engine that is found in the mk2 mr2 turbo's amungst a few other vehicles.

What the hell have you been smoking?
Iv been under, in and around more than a few AW11s, and I own a 2tge in a kit car (same as a 3t, but its a 1600). I find it VERY hard to believe that Toyota would have stuffed a 3t into the AW11.

The reasons are long, including the fact that the 3t was out of production when the AW11 was put in production.

Unless of course you have proof otherwise?

Anyway, on Topic.

The AW11 will always be the faster car. Same engine, but with more hp (supercharged), matched to a drive line with less parasitic loss and in a lighter body with a classic MR layout.

i would take the 86.... the aw11 probably win because of power and all... but i always feel like driving one after watching tsuchiya beat much faster cars in an ae86 on the touge

he never raced the aw11(im still suprised the lack of mr2's in BMI).Although he did loose to an mk3 mr2..but thats besides the point.

Can anyone here who has seen both on the track or have owned(and modified) both and have any statements? :)

As popular as the corolla gts/sprinter trueno/levin ect ect is now adays I am suprised at the lack of information here..
I have actualy heard the ae86 is infact actualy lighter or about equal then the mk1 mr2(NA hardtop no less) and it is easier for the ae86 to loose weight then mr2. :eek7:
Can anyone tell me how the corolla gts's (ae86) fair in solo2 in various classes depending on their modifications? :)

Wouldn't surprise me if the AE86 was lighter than the AW11.

ae86 weighs ~ 2000-2100 lb ... so light especially for a rwd...
