Danno SS versus me

2000LS1Z28

well we met at the track, and ran his SS versus my Evolution. Here's a run down of what mods are on each car:

2002 Z28 SS
All SLP options (catback, air lid, and some other stuff I didn't catch), Z06 cam, and Nitto drag radials. Dynoed at 338 rwhp at LAPD

2003 Evo
Xede piggyback, HKS catback, Helix downpipe, clutch master's stage one clutch

I ran my 91 octane gas like a moron, as I had too much gas left over to make it 100 octane. Oh well. I was really stupid and gave Danno advise. He was quite insistant on running 25 psi in his drag radials, but I talked him into putting it down to 20 psi on his 2nd and 3rd runs (Notice 60' times on those runs). On to the runs......

Danno Bobby
1st run
R/T .928 1.105 (D'oh)
60' 2.206 1.940
330' 5.977 5.660
1/8 9.019 @ 82.37 8.774 @ 80.11
1000' 11.585 11.483
1/4 13.769 @ 103.07 1/4 13.749 @ 99.90
Winner Danno SS

2nd run
R/T 1.219 (Ouch) .640
60' 2.146 2.022
330' 5.808 5.745
1/8 8.763 @ 84.15 8.850 @80.71
1000' 11.285 11.519
1/4 13.436 @ 104.58 1/4 13.761 @ 101.90
Winner me (Reaction time)

3rd run
R/T .749 .799
60' 2.189 1.961
330' 5.830 5.645
1/8 8.777 @ 84.50 8.724 @ 81.27
1000' 11.297 11.374
1/4 13.448 @ 104.59 13.6 @ 101.27
Winner Danno

Well Danno beat me. We had some close runs, but his car was clearly faster. I don't feel so bad though. I picked up 7mph on the new tune. The track was rather hot at first, and the headwind didn't help anything.

P.S. Some fat dumbass challenged me to a boxing fight, and then walked away when I pulled up next to him. Go to the track to race, not to fight.

That's pretty cool man. You guys had some very close runs, and DanoSS is very consistant with his car, he'd make a good bracket racer.

BTW, is that a .500 base tree or .000?

2000LS1Z28
08-22-2004, 01:20 AM
Well that's what threw us off. Subtract .5 from the R/T We didn't know that they changed the tree to a .000 light, instead of a .500. We took off leisurly due to this I think (I was like, man I suck, how could I redlight). The new timing threw us off, but we were pretty close reaction time wise. We both launch at the third ember. I always seemed to hold him off until the 1/8 mile, then his SS would just power by me, and then nudge away.

13.6 @ 101 eh?

Well, we'll have to see if the Z can best that when we meet in September... eh Bobby? ;)

Yup the 0.000 tree thing really threw us both off. After the first run, Bobby was like "ha ha, you redlighted I win". That totally screwed with my head. The next run I hesitated and sat till the green.

The third run was probably the best. We both cut damn near the same R/Ts and were neck-in-neck at the 1/8. If you factor in my 0.050 head start that put us right next to each other at the 1/8, 8.727(me) vs. 8.724.

All in all, fun times. We'll have to do this again.

Im trapping around 99-100mph but with horrible 60's im still in the 14's :(

Don't you think it's rather odd Matty, that i'm only trapping 3 mph less then a 338 rwhp car. You wanna run me from a roll with probably around 70 whp less :p Let alone from a dig. Danno will tell you that he had to play catch up. Besides, it's C16 race gas and the 100 octane map for you. P.S. Danno thinks my car has around 300 awhp.

Yes, 338whp... pushing around a 3500lb Camaro.

Remember, I'm lighter... Don't need as much power to go as fast.;)

Why do you gotta run Race gas? Nervous?

No, I wanna school someone that has never set foot on a track, and that has only street raced. Nothing like teaching the younglings :D
I hope we run from a dig. I think you'll be unpleasantly surprised.

Never had a reason to set foot on a race track. Never had a car to run. I see no problem with that.

Run from a dig.. a roll.. whatever you'd like.

I guarantee nothing though, due to set backs on parts. I may decline even running. The way things are looking, I might not get the car a week before the monthly meet. Hardly enough time to get adjusted to the new power plant.

I felt the clutch today, shit that thing is stiff. The reach to the shifter is kinda awkward too, a bit far. It's going to be like learning stick all over again for me. haha. Although I do have a new Razo shift knob... ooo comfy!

But enough excuses.

evo guy, there shouldnt be a need for you to run race gas if you are so conifdent my friend. or are you scared that he might give some stiffer competition than you thought? :evillol:

actually if they had nitrous it wouldnt be worth running obviously if the opponent knew they didnt have a chance. dont always underestimate the underdogs...

2000LS1Z28
08-23-2004, 01:19 AM
I'm not underestimating anything. Matt's been talking about power to weight ratio for awhile now. Will see how my portly Evo does. I think it's all in fun. I am gonna snarf Matt though. He should really avoid running me from a dig, especially on the street, where there is very little traction. That is just my advise though. You don't have to follow it. :D

...man i need to get boosted
1/4 at 15.7 last i checked, get boosted i'll have 300whp and closer to 13.7's good luck w/ runnin' that SS though, a good intake or turning up the boost a lil more and u'll have him ...then again if u launch at 5k u'll have him too!

2000LS1Z28
08-23-2004, 01:54 AM
I launch at 6000 rpms roughly. I had him out of the hole, every single time. I just couldn't hold Danno off. Then again he has like 338rwhp, so there is only soo much I can do to hold him off in the first place. Even with 100 octane I wouldn't be able to hold him off top end wise. I think on 100 octane I would've run about 2 mph faster. That still leaves him with a mph or 2 over me. Danno needs to get rid of that Hypertech, and buy LS1 edit. Once he does that they'll be able to dyno tune it properly (They had to stop his dyno session, due to his car detonating).

Damn nice races, I love bracket racing but have not been able to since I am always at the track on test and tune night.

You had him out of the hole everytime and at the 1/8 marker.
Damn those LS1s and there second eighth! :disappoin

I am willing to drive down to Famoso if anyone in Socal want to race a shitty Pontiac. I'll bring a video camera.

I am installing a cam/heads/injectors/springs/retainers and soon will be ready to kick some ass.

2000LS1Z28

I don't know where Famoso is. I was thinking along the lines of Sacramento Dragway. Next time I go i'm not going without an additional mod. Seeing as to how everyone and their mother is trapping 105+, I think I needed an extra added advantage (Especially since Danno's buying a torque converter). I think cam gears are coming in in a few months :p Then I can have a Vishnu Stage 1.

I know you guys haven't posted in this topic for a couple days, buy my school started this week and I just haven't had time to check the boards. Anyways, reading through the newest post makes me wnat to get to the track that much more (rained us out last Saturday, I was so dissappointed, and its supposed to rain this Saturday as well!, shew!).

Bobby,
Went to dyno today. Did the runs with the exact same configuration I ran you:

mods are:
SLP LID w/ AC Delco paper filter
02 LS6 cam + LS6 springs
Throttle Body Bypass (free-mod)
SLP smooth bellow
Hypertech Power Programmer 3
shift points raised 1-2:+4mph 2-3:+4 mph 3-4:+7mph, shift firmness +25%
Rev limiter at 6600RPM
Power Tuning installed+
94 octane

results were:
run 1:328.3rwhp/332.1rwtq
run 2:330.8rwhp/330.0rwtq
run 3:329.4rwhp/331.5rwtq

:banghead: DAMN YOU Hypertech!!
I added 3 mods and lost 7.2rwhp/4.7rwtq. The TBB mod is supposed to be good for 3-7rwhp. The bellow maybe 1rwhp and Hypertech advertises a +10-12rwhp gain. I was hoping for just under 350rwhp.

The car previously put down the following on the same dyno:
mods were:
SLP LID w/ KnN
02 LS6 cam + LS6 springs
stock PCM LS1 tunning
93 octane

results were:
run 1:333.7rwhp/330.0rwtq
run 2:333.4rwhp/327.8rwtq
run 3:338.0rwhp/336.8rwtq

Suffice to say I'm taking off the crappy HPP3 tune and letting the car figure out what it likes. I think headers are in order before a proffesional dyno tune though.
Just thought I'd let you know what you ran against Bobby.

Oh yeah, my raceweight is ~3650lbs.

chevytrucks92
08-27-2004, 12:28 AM
danoSS, I'd say headers and catback exhaust would go along way in getting you close to the 350 rwhp number.

I seen on Horse Power TV once when they added headers and exhaust to Chuck's 98 SS and it picked up right around 20 whp (they also had a bigger throttle body-I'm not sure of any other mods, but the baseline was 305 hp, after exhaust and headers it was something like 324.x)

Hey Danno, I know what you mean. Remember what I told you about the hypertech??? It's a P.O.S. You need LS1 edit man. That and you need to do a autotap diagnostic of the car. You really need to talk with my buddy Steve (Pendragon). He knows more then I do about LS1's. He can autotap your car, and if you pay for it, I believe there is a way of buying an accessory to hook Steve's LS1 edit to your car. Let me know if you want to talk with him by pm'ing me. You'll probably gain 10-15 whp, and have a safe tune to boot. BTW those dyno numbers are affected by many variables. Heat and humidity could play a major factor in how your car dynoed. My car was dynoed in a blazing hot shop, so the shop owner said i'd dyno about 3-5 whp higher.

with a 1.9 60' although it's good it't not anything special. I have seen civic's with drag radial's hit 1.9's. With some good tire out back I dont see how you would get him from a dig by much if even at all.

power to weight is everything! I say matt takes it! :loser: :iceslolan

2000LS1Z28

Ahh that's 1.9 sec. at Speedway, which isn't the greatest for traction, even in an AWD car. Danno SS has an automatic Z28 SS with nitto drag radials. He was cutting 2.1 sec. 60'. Besides 1.9 on the street is very good. I should be able to cut 1.8's but it hasn't happened yet.

civicHBsi91
08-29-2004, 03:39 PM
the street isnt quite the track is it?

even a shitty track is better than the street, i cut 2.1's on shitty tires on a shitty track. the way you drive affects the 60'
