I know this is a caprice forum but I assume the roadmaster is just about the same. Is there a secret way to get the starter out of this car I have it unbolted but I can't get it by the frame, exaust, flywheel and the tranny lines. Any ideas appreciated

I had an '87 Caprice that was in desparate need of a new starter. I don't remember the setup down there but I know that it was a mess. I tried to do it in my high school auto shop. My instructor told me to disconnect all that stuff and I ended up giving up and returned the starter.

Try asking a GM dealership for a little free advice. I do it all the time!

There should be a brace that runs from the frame, to the lower control arm mount and back to the frame. It will tak an 18mm wrence on both sides to take it out. Once that brace is gone it's a snap.

^^^ I agree, it's still a PITA to get it out, but it helps to remove the brace.
