I own a 94 s10 ss and have a overheating problem due to a suspected cracked head. The motor has 250k on it and I have been adivesed to repace the motor if I want to keep the truck. I am going to bite the bullet and repace the motor. I want some more ponies then I have now and was thinking 350 swap. My mechanic says he has done so many swaps that he wont do one a gain cuzz they are a pain in the ass. :mad: He suggested that I look up some performance 4.3 that I could drop in. I have seached a bit on the net but dont know what will fit the best. Please give me some links or info on proformance motors which will be a hassle free swap for my baby. Thx

I was looking around awhile ago, and i found that www.s10forums.com has a good overview on what it takes to swap a v8 small block, and even a basic rundown on putting a big block in an s10 (that looks like an experience), but it gives how to instructions, oh and what exactly is a SS s10 entiled to, i have see a few of them advertised, but i don't know what qualifies them as a SS

I think an ss, and dont quote me, has a roll pan, painted front grill, fully loaded, and a sport suspension whatever that is. Maybe the rearend is posi I am not sure. Thats all I know.

If you are looking to do a swap with just another 4.3 check engine codes. Depending on the year there were different motors with the same liter. For example in 94 there was a z code motor and a w code motor. the w is a highperformance motor compared to the z code.

Before you replace, how do you know it is a cracked head?

Have you:

1.)Replaced the Rad cap?
2.)replaced the thermostat?
3.)Do you have thick white smoke out the tailpipe?
4.) Does you oil look milky like chocolate milk?
5.) Do you have oil in you coolant?

Please answer ALL these questions.

dude .... i also have a 94 S-10 SS ....i actually have been pulling off the intake and TBI unit for the past several days ..... the 4.3 i have has 146,XXX and ran great up until last summer.........i ran into $ trouble and took it off the road and insuranace all together....now i have decided to try a rebuild of the 4.3 ...I already have the main parts off the block but am stuck with the power steering pulley..it requires a special puller to remove it.....it has to be removed to get to the Alternator braket bolts that are attached to the driver side head... talk about .. bad... the exhaust ports were in bad shape 70% blocked on the passenger side and 50% blocked on driver side...as well as the cooling system looks like it has rusted slightly and been blocked somewhere in the radiator....... the intake gaskets looked in very good condition ..but I havent got to the head gaskets yet..i hope that is the reason for my main probs...... any input guys????

ok... when you do find out if your motor is shot or not .... and if it is ...

if you replace with a 4.3 get a 96+ ... the earlier ones you cant get any bolt on superchargers ... :(

and if anyone knows of a bolt on for a 94 4.3 CPI ... lemme know

hey bigblackone i would put a tpi intake and injectors on there off of a ss s-10 or blazer and then use the charger for 96 up

No 4.3L came with TPI injection.
