quote: HA! I got the oil out without taking the nut off. My car probably hates me now though. I just unscrewed the oil filter and turned the car on. Makes a mess because oil sprays everywhere, but I got the shit out of the car. Filled it up with mobile one and yeah.
.......................... ...................i cannot beleive im hearin this. thats worse than stupid.. in our workshop all i have to use is a half drive ratchet and the nut comes off with no effort. if its rusted in or some twat put threadlock on the nut then just use a 1 metre powerbar or sumthin.thats baaaaaaaaaaaad

Funny story... New guy in a class I was in at the local community college (I was 16 at the time) was trying to get the oil plug off... He couldnt get it... He didnt ask for help... He just decided to do it himself.
So he went over and got the Impact (I was sitting there watching from my bay... Just laughing to myself)
Next thing I know, oil is pouring everywhere, and the kid looks into the socket... To find the nut of course, and its male fitting
Whole class found it funny... Esspecially when he had to buy a new oil pan.

nobody under the age of 21 should be alowed to work on any mechanical thing of any kind. should be a law with severe punishment. besides that kids mommy and daddy will probrobly buy him a brand new car if that one breaks.

Nobody under the age of 21? That is a little harsh. I always change my own oil every 2k. I know thats a little early, but I run my engine hard and it never hurts to be safe.

Dont say that cause me and my buddies (16-21) all work on cars and we never fuck it up. Were not all as retarded as that kid.

that's retarded. i've done routine maintenance, put on intakes, springs, struts, shocks, stereos, brake pads, rotors, calipers etc. etc. all before i turned 21. I have a fiend who's been working on cars with his father since he was 6 and fully rebuilt an '84 Buick Grand National all before he was 21. age isn't the issue, lack of common sense is.

You understand 'act' and 'is' have seperate meanings, correct? Because you obviously misread my post by replacing 'is' with 'acts'.
What does age and wealth have to do with automotive skill, anyways?

not much, seeing as I'm 16 and would probably qualify as wealthy, but somehow I manage to posses the automotive skill to install a sport cam on my bimmer...

Screw the idiot who can't change his oil... I want that oil drain valve setup (check the link posted by the 5th person down, Westside WRX.) Man, that would make the whole damn process so much friggin' easier.
Well, except for that whole bloodying-up my knuckles when the stupid filter wrench decides it wants to relinquish its grip while I'm in the middle of torqueing it. I HATE that shit. :uhoh:
