Please help a confused female

I have been looking at cold air intakes for my 98 automatic eclipse gs, and I found that I liked the aem v2. However, the description said it was only for a manual. I want to know if I can still put it in my car, and if I can't, what is the best intake to put in my car?

What description said that? As far as i know, it should fit your car. AEM is good, but its kinda expensive. Any aftermarket intake, even from ebay will do the job. Dont spend alot of money on an intake, you should be saving for more important and costly things.

Thank you. I want to put a turbo in my car, but that's so much money, and I'm poor. So I want to start with little things to make myself feel like my car is fast. :)

Ya, it will make you think :iceslolan your car is fast. If your goal is putting a turbo in, i would say reconsider. That was kinda my initial goal but after 6 months w/ mods done, its just not worth it. I would recommed a gst or gsx, thats what i did. Once you drive that, the gs feels like nothing.

Oh dont worry about being attached. If you know someone who has a gsx or gst, just ask them i you can drive it. Then being attached to the gs wont matter. Actually, youll try your best to get rid of it to get the turbo eclipse. Its only the truth. :biggrin:

what descritpion are you looking at? all the ones i saw didn't say anything about AT or manual...

and if you look on ebay there are some intakes you can get for extremely cheaper than the AEM. not saying that if you got the mnoney it matters, but let's face it, it's just a tube with a filter. you could even get a tube off ebay and then put a K&N on the end of it for a fantastic and cheap CAI.

Also, lets not forget Home Depot intakes. lol :icon16: , hey they work.

Its not even about being rich. If you plan to put a turbo in your car now or later, you prob will be spending 3-4 grand just on parts, even more. Im just suggesting that you save and buy a turbo eclipse. Come on, its not gonna be more than 3 grand higher than your gs. If you look good enough, you can find good deals. I found my gst for 3,500 if you can believe, but thats because im a good ass negotiator :evillol:. Its up to you.

My car was 9400, with intrest, over 10000. I saw a gsx (same year as mine) for over 16000. So I guess I assumed they were expensive. Plus my insurance rates would probably go up a bit. I already pay 2000 a year, cuz I'm high risk. :)

holy shit. Where do you live and how many miles are on the car?

Wisconsin. 60000ish when I bought it, and now 80000ish.

Thats just crazy. The miles are not bad on it but thats alot. I wouldnt even pay 10 for a turbo eclipse. Look around maybe even in other states, where the car is cheaper. If you want one you'll find it.

There aren't alot of eclipses floating around in my state.

Look in ebay you can find some people who will ship it to you for a good price. or you can go to dsmtrader and find some in your state, but yea i agree there aint alot of turbo eclipses runnin around. well not over her were i live. i rarely see any.

ya i bought my TSi for a grand amd i have seen GSX's for around $5000

sorry to say but if there is more than 50k miles on that GS u got ripped!

Get a 1G GSX or something and trick that out. My cousin hates DSMs, but yesterday night he called me about how his 2dr Accord V6 got A$$r@p3D by a 1G GSX by a couple-o-car lengths. Like a typical NA guy he goes "man, it was making all these spaceship/jet plane noises".

Just did a search on cars.com 100 miles from my zip code. Lowest 2g eclipse is 96 gs for 5900. Highest 2g eclipse is 99 spyder gs for 14500. No gsx. 97 gst syder 6990 to 99 gst spyder 12999.

100 miles is not that much for buying a car. I think the best thing is to find a good deal, then decide whether its worth traveling to pick it up (ebay, dsmtrader). You could also have it shipped. Let me just put it like this, me and my bro drove from here (MD) down to Dallas Texas, to pick up a car (and it wasnt the gst). You could also fly there and drive it back, its up to you.

Thats what I did with my GSX. Flew to Oregon (Im in Utah, Salt Lake City) to buy my 96 GSX with 64k miles. California car, plus, the dealership owner picked me up at the airport and let me use his dealer plate to drive home. 650 miles, not bad. Right when I started enjoying AWD turbo, I found out when they changed the oil they didnt tighten the oil filter stud. I pulled the oil pan to find 1 quart of oil and tons of metal (this was right before the weekend I was going to change the oil myself). Kind of a bummer, but now I have a new engine and its a fun car.

damn, come up to stevens point if you don't think there are eclipses. Up here, there are a hell of lot of 1g dsms, and almost all of them are tuned in some way, and pretty much every one(but mine, and this 2g), are turbo, and fast. Theres alot of rice int eh city though, actually, this little city(24,000), is a big car town, central wisconsin is huge into cars, mostly stock cars and muscle cars, but imports too.

well i would say the amount of a turbo doesnt out way the price or a gsx its worth it to buy the gsx and forget about the gs with the turbo up grade. what you will spend in upgrading is the price of a factory turbo and not all the dam work lol

i just need to figure out how to find someone that wants to trade their gsx for my rs......muahahahahahahaa
