I have a Passat and the key fob wont open my car.....
I have been to my local VW Dealer and they are wanting stupid money to try to fix the problem which could just be a battery in the fob?

does anyone know how to set it up or tune it?

It depends on the key fob ?
If it is the old type IE: The one that DOES NOT have the retracting key on it then it is easy.....as for the the one WITH the retracting key i am not sure.
The old style has a little notch on the side with the VW logo, it is located half way round on the radius facing the key.
If you have a jewelers set of screwdrivers use a flat driver to prise the key section away from the button section.
You should now have two parts. The part with the button should have a red band running round the side, gently put the flat screwdriver between the two parts of the button assembly and prise open. Now you should see the batteries there are two of them (NOTE there is a metal disc between the this has to go back in!!) put in the new batteries the reverse way to you taking the old ones out.....
The casing of the button should click back together watch an not bend the little metal legs that hang down on the button side of the two parts this is what is used to connect the batteries to the button. Good Luck

I have the retractable key, but it worked the same way that you suggested. Thanks a alot because you just saved me a trip to the dealership and the time and cost of getting the battery changed., which I'm sure would not have been free or $10.

Have a great weekend!

I have a 99 VW Passat and have just had to purchase a new Fob for the retracting key as the old one broke, The problem is I do not have the vehicle manuals so don't have a clue how to programme the fob to my car.
Can anyone please give me the sequences and instructions to programme the new Fob to my car??
Many thanks.

Ant
