Tire Pressure

Ok, this might be a stupid question. On my 2003 Grand Am GT, I notice my tire pressure was a bit low. I filled it up close the maximum PSI which is 44 PSI. My question, is it best to fill tires up to the Maximum PSI that it recommends or should it a bit lower or higher than what is stated? I do mostly city driving and some Highway driving. Thanks

Do not fill to 44PSI. The recommended tire pressure should be listed on the driver's side door (sticker showing vehicle weight, colour codes, tire pressure etc...) That pressure will cause premature tire wear. I'm assuming tire pressure of 32 PSI. Always check tire pressure when tires are cold.
