Coilover Sleeves + Stock Shocks = bad combination?

Okay. Bought a 97 DX hatch a couple of weeks ago and have only driven it a few times. Recently I had my wife in the car with me and noticed the ride was waaaay more bouncy than I remember a Civic being.

Could the bouncy ride be caused by the shocks/struts (possibly they are in need of replacement) being stock in combination with the coilovers or is it the just coilovers (Arospeed) the previous owners have on them now?
Do you think the shocks/struts are blown due to the guy having the car lowered 2" previously? He didn't ever have a camber kit installed while the car was dropped.
Anyone running this combination have issues like this?

The ride is (supposedly) set at stock height now but the bounce factor is car-azy. I owned 2 Civics previous to my Prelude so I know this isn't a stock condition with the 3rd. I just need to know what I need to go after replacement wise before I get under there and rip things off.

I have some stock springs on the way and am thinking of just getting it back to stock since this is my wife's daily driver now. She's not heavy into modifications as I am.

the bouncing is from the cheap coil overs.. its the springs that make you bounce.. depending on how hard the guy drove it, and how long it was lowered..the shock are most likely on their last stretch. they are not ment to handle the car at anything but stock height. buy yourself some kyb agx's or something. not too expensive(about 350) and you have the ability of adjusting the dampening on the strut. i'm using agx's and r1 coils and the ride isn't too bad at all. i wish i saved for GC coils but owell. so far so good.

edit: just saw this was for your wifey.. kyb makes gr2 struts which are a little better then oem replacements. they are cheaper than the agx if you don't car to adjust the dampener

you need shocks if you're using coilovers. kyb agx is a good name in my book.

Would the AGX's coupled with the coilovers. give me a substantially less bouncy ride? The main reason I'm asking is that I just got a set of those shocks/struts for my Prelude and was thinking about getting a set of coilovers and running with a 1" inch drop. Would I expect the same kind of bouncy-ass ride we're now getting with the Civic?

More than likely this setup will go back to stock all the way round because of it being my wife's car now but I think I can convince her to upgrade.
