Here's some pencil before I ink.

http://www.58vw.com/af/69line.gif

I haven't done much to this at all. I'm going to go and do the wheels with ellipses and then redraw the lines that need it with curves so I can get them programmed in, then I'll ink it.

After I finish this inking I'l;l have all 3 cars ready to photoshop.

It should be fun.

It allmost looks like a technical drawing with those precise lines, but it has the artistic flair that you allways have. Great job!

well put words.

reminds me of the beginnings of an ad comp.
a well-drawn one.

as of yet. so here it is. we await it's development.

Hey fellas...thanks for the kind words, but I'm a student just like you. It's a fun game to play though. This site has made me better.

here's the latest.

I just got started on the inking and as normal I try to tackle the toughest part first. In this case I consider the wheels the tough part because of the subtle perspective needed to pull off the profile.

http://www.58vw.com/af/69line3.gif
Here's a detail on the front tire. I haven't erased or corrected in PS yet but I thought you might get something out of the pre-fixed view. My reference showed no detail in the ralley wheels so I found another good pic and kinda winged it. I haven't done a set of ralley wheels in a while, but I'm pretty ok with these so far.

when you do the photoshop stuff, post frame grabs of it like in your tutes. redundancy is our friend, as we are all students. ;)

looking excellent.

oh...those little numbers on the lower right are the ellipse sizes I used for the different rim rings. I did the front wheel and wrote down the sizes as I went along and then did the back rim...being careful to move the inner wheel in just a tad so as to capture a little depth.

I dont know anything about inking, but this looks great so far!

I think I'm gonna do the side cut, side lights, trim, and mirror in Illy.

I figure it should be fun to try. I started to ink the side then it occurred to me that I could use the pen tool in Illustrator to draw that line then increase the width of the stroke to something like 8 then outline the path, and I'd have that shape perfectly. I think I'll try it. If it doesn't work I'll ink it.

sorry for rambling

Very nice!! Btw, shouldn't the undershadow start from the bottom of the tyres?

lemorris
08-23-2004, 08:26 PM
Yeah...I may drop the shadow alltogether and do a new one in Illy.

I'll make a few captures and see what I come up with.

Are the side vents by the front wheel suppose to be inline?, Just asking cuz they don't look inline but its hard to notice.

lemorris

I'll select and adjust all of that in PS.

I can still keep the hand look but use my computer as a tool to make corrections. I may just duplicate the one I like the best and make 2 new ones.

I'm still not sure where this is gonna go.

Sometimes I like to keep the rough edges and the not perfectly lined up objects in a drawing. It really helps ad to the entire "art" feel. One of the reasons I love Warner bros. toons is because I can see the imperfections and the feeling in the line. It's a balancing act. For these guys I'll probably sync it all. I'm not sure yet. In the design the front of this car may be hidden behind the 48 anyway so the extra effort may be for nothing.

we'll see.

oh...this is also going on a shirt which will give 10 -15 percent dot gain and in the long run it may not matter that much.

I finished the ink, and scanned it again.

I left the pencil stuff on and adjusted levels so I could see it good.

I dropped it into Illustrator and drew the stuff on the side. I also added more shadow.

I flipped this reference because I liked it, but it was the passenger side. I drew the mirror on a separate sheet of paper and scanned it and added it. I then merged everything and did some brigtness/contrast and then did some levels so I could get to solid black and white (for the most part). I then copied my llustrator stuff over to PS and dropped it in.

I also made a selection of those side slots and drug a guideline in so they land on the same horizontal plane (for the most part....I could have made 3 identical in perfect alignment, but I kinda like it not perfect...it stays human...personal preference).

Next comes tones for all 3 cars. I won't drag it out step by step. I'll post when they're done. (maybe I'll do a small area for Bonz).

oh here's the car...still needs work, but it's getting there.

thanks You....hey do you have a name? Me neither....Lemorris is another name for that piece of meat between your nostrils...(kidding) I actually looked up the history of my name starting with my grandmother, and in the end it meant "Son of the Black Guy" (French descent...though I have no French in my family...Black-Apache-Irish....mostly black....or Nestle Cocoa brown). I was really hoping for a name that meant "King of all he surveys", or "Maker of great sandwiches", but alas........

now

Here's the pre layout. I dropped in the 55 with the tones, but nothing here is solid. Well...actually the overall layout won't change much. They requested it so my hands are tied.

I'm posting this because once it's done it won't look the same at all.

Get ready for the real fun!!

i dig the layout so far. i see the other cars we've gotten to know over the past few weeks.

what is going in the circle? anything? if nothing is going in there, it looks like you're leaving space for something. yes?

good call Bonz!!

The club logo is gonna go there. I may change the text some, and re-shade as well.

Should be fun. I've cleared half my plate this weekend so me and Corona get to get down.

oh... a small logo will go on the front of the shirt.

Nice!! The way the two cars at the front are placed make it look like there has been a crash though :(. Shame you can't change the layout... Very good drawing though.

Hi Lemorris,

That looks awesome. Love the line work, maybe one day I will have the time to try that. I have been trying tracing in PS but I am not having any luck, oh well. School has been really busy for me. I hope to start a marker/pastel Corvette C5R street car soon.

lolol.....crash....The plan was to rely on the classic 3 car "Z" pattern. Once I clear the windows and do the real layout I'm sure it will lock down. There's still some elemental changes coming.

Hey Al,

Trace in Illustrator. Then export as PS. The drawing tools are much more intuitive.
