Window problem on a 1997 328iS...

Today I was putting my drivers side window up and there was a loud cracking noise, then it seemed like the window fell off of its "track". The moter for the power window seems to be working. Has anyone ever had this problem before? If so, about how much does this cost to get fixed? And do I need to go to the dealership to get it fixed? Thanks for the help.
