Power Window Problems

I have a 1999 extended cab Silverado, 5.3L. It has 100,000 miles on it. About a year ago, the passenger side window quit working. I had it fixed by a dealer ($700). During the past week, both windows have quit working. Sounds like the cable is getting chewed up.
Has anyone else experienced this problem??
I'm thinking of replacing the whole window assembly, because there is obviously a problem with the GM parts. Any suggestions??
Thanks.

Before it went did it sound like glass being scratched? If so, you need to change the whole assembly. A few others have posted how-tos in the past here. You can get the whole assemble reasonably on ebay.

Check your electrical before throwing parts at it!

ABOUT A MONTH AGO MY DRIVERSIDE QUIT WORKING, DEALER SAID THE WINDOW REGULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE COST WOULD BE $250 PLUS LABOR. WELL U NO ME I WENT TO 1AAUTODOTCOM AND FOUND THE PART FOR $100 AND REPLACED THE REGULATOR IN 20 MINUTES. I BELIEVE YOURS IS A CABLE ASSEMBLY LIKE MINE I HAVE A 99 SILVERADO. THEY HAD ANOTHER REG. FOR $80(MADE IN CHINA) I WENT WITH AMERICAN MADE OEM SPECS. TOOK 3 WORKING DAYS TO BE SHIPPED TO ME, UPS GROUND. TAKE YOU PANEL OFF PROP UP YOUR WINDOW, REMOVE THE 6 SCREWS, 3 IN EACH COLUMN, TAKE OUT ASSEMBLY AND INSERT NEW ASSEMBLY AND REPLACE SCREWS, AND DOOR PANEL. IF YOU WANT ME TO DO IT NOW THATS EXTRA. LOL, JUST KIDDING, HAVE FUN REALLY VERY SIMPLE.
