No "umph" after changing spark plugs

Hello,

Have an 89 Chevy K2500. Just changed all the plugs and wires (old ones had some carbon deposits on them. Also changed Dist. cap and rotor. Took it for a test run and truck is dogging. No acceleration at all. Also it keeps "spitting" off the #5 wire. Sounds a lot better than it did though. Also...wires are extremely hot!. Any suggestions?

Check that the wires are secure on the plugs and cap, and check to see that the wires are in the right spot. If that all checks out, check the gap on all the plugs.

What kind of parts did you use (brand wise)? I have a '98 that I changed the OE plugs @ 60k to a set of Champion Platinum's and it ran alright. Also put on Accel wires but there was no significant change in performance. At 100K, I had learned the value of O.E.M. vs. aftermarket from current job. I kept the same Accel wires but put in O.E. AC Delco Platinums and WOW! I forgot my truck could run so damn well! the Champions also showed signs of excessive heat damage. And of course do as the reply above says too.

On my 1999 350 I tried bosch platinum plugs with a pre set gap (bosch specs) of about 35 and after that the truck ran with a rough idle at times with a check engine light storing a trouble code for the oxygen sensors but no noticeable power loss,I promptly installed brand new, more expensive factory ac platinums plugs with the larger gap which eliminated the problem......

Maybe you got plugs that are hotter than they should be for your app. like this example. CR43TR or something like that. the position of the 3 is the spark temp reading. The higher the number the hotter. This could cause hot plugs and bad running, other than that whats listed above could be your problem.
