Engine light

Two weeks ago my 3.1L Malibu's check engine light turned on while driving. I didn't notice any engine problems when this occured. The light stayed on for two weeks because I didn't have time to take it in. Today while I was driving the light just turned off on its own. What would cause a "check engine" light to turn itself off?

To be safe, have the code read at Autozone [free]. Chances are the gas cap wasn't tightened sufficiently when the car was last fueled.

Did you find out it was the fuel injectors from all of the bad gasoline? I've been using cleaner just about every fill up, but it doesn't help all of the time. It started out slow and the dealer didn't know what it was. (2003) Then the news broke about a year ago. The dealer says each injector costs about $150 plus labor!! I just wonder if I have them replaced (possible bad GM parts) will this just happen again. My car only had about 40,000 miles when it first happened.
